“No,” Indigo shook his head fast. “Ambry was insistent that he wasn’t giving up the apartment or Odie.”

“Maybe we buy the whole apartment building to have more room,” I tossed out the idea.

“Don’t do that,”Teal cut into the conversation.“Stop being the grandson of Clarence Moonscale for two seconds. What are you going to do? Buy the whole building and make their neighbors homeless so you can have more room?”

“We wouldn’t do that!”Indigo snapped back.

“If we did that, we’d get them other places to---”I started to say.

“NO!”Teal roared.“Just no. Give them a few minutes to talk. You two are a lot to handle individually. Maybe it set in that they have to handle both of you forever.”

“We should probably feed them when they’ve finished talking,” Indigo changed the subject.

“Maybe they’re figuring out who gets the bed and who---”

“Shush,” Indigo hushed me. “Seriously. Shush. Yeah. I know. Me too.” He glanced down at his crotch. “Just no. I’m not turning into a prude but all that has to be up to them. We might not outnumber them exactly but we outweigh them by several hundred pounds and even more magic.”

“I’m putting extra condoms in all the baskets,”Teal cut back into our conversation.

“What baskets?”Indigo asked.

“Your matingmoon baskets, dumbass. I would make two really big ones but if they’re that short on space I’m not going to stress them out. I just hope you two can fit through the doorways with your big heads.”

We all laughed, and Teal started running down lists of things he planned to include in the baskets. A few hours ago, I was trying to convince an elf to suck me off again. Now, I was planning forever. Talk about bloody whiplash.

“Don’t worry about Crilus,”Teal chimed in.“I hooked up with him for you too.”

“Huh? What do you mean, Teal?”

“He knew it was me,”Teal laughed.

“What the hell?”I blinked.

“Hey. You got forever. I just got a quicky behind the bar. Shut up and decide between fresh and dried apricot.”

Chapter Five

Ambry

Alone with Odell inside the car felt less claustrophobic than when the four of us had settled down inside its belly. I could breathe without inhaling Indigo’s scent again and again. Neither of us said anything for a long moment but listened to what sounded like two-thirds of the conversation our mates had.

“Do you think they know we could hear them talk?” Odie asked when they fell quiet.

“Maybe. I’m not sure. They don’t seem like the type to keep secrets from us. I hope not anyway,” I bit my lip.

“Are you okay?” Odie asked me.

“I should be asking you that. You didn’t have to come in tonight. I’m glad you did because of Cobalt and everything but… It’s like I have whiplash or something. One minute I’m ready to lay down the rules with him. With Indigo. Ready to tell him that he better make his life fit around both of us because I’m not putting up with him trying to chase you off and the next thing I know – BOOM! Cobalt! Cobalt and you! Is he nice? Indigo seems nice. Sort of clueless about stocking the shelves but nice enough. I don’t know.”

“It’s hard to think straight. That’s why you don’t know but Cobalt is nice. He smells good. He’s protective. He—Do you smell the war on me?” Odie asked, sniffing his own armpit.

I sniffed his neck, chest, and belly but he didn’t smell like the war.

“You just smell like Odie to me. Well, you and Cobalt now. Though, he smells good. Not quite like Indigo but close,” I said.

“I told him I think he’s an empath or something,” Odie shrugged. “What did you want to talk about or did you just need a break?”

“I wanted to check on you and yeah, I think I did need a break from his scent. I can smell him from here but it’s not too bad.”
