“We have two killers, similar height and body type. And one mom who erased the proof. Sound like anyone we know?” I ask unnecessarily. Then turn to Martin. “What do we do now?”

“Doesn’t change much,” he says. “Whether we’re using the original or a recovered file, the images are still the same. We got two hooded killers and one clear as day accomplice.”

I nod in response.

Now to find definitive proof.

I try to call Genevieve on my way back to the beach house, but she doesn’t answer. I speed up the tiniest bit. Not yet worried that something has happened, but not feeling entirely comfortable with not being able to reach Genevieve either.

“Genevieve?” Nothing looked out of the ordinary when I pulled up to the house. Now that I’m inside, the same applies.

Still, no Genevieve.

Where the fuck did she go?

That’s when I see the note on the kitchen island.

T – the girls finally called me back!

We’re going to the Seaside Festival today. I’ll be back later.

Love, G

PS – Phone died. No time to charge it before leaving.

Aw, what the fuck, Genevieve? What part of don’t go anywhere does she not understand?

I hit up Al.

“Hey handsome,” she answers.

“Can you hack an ankle bracelet monitor?”

“If you could see me now, I’m rolling my eyes.”

“Can you send live feeds to my phone?” I ask.

“No. But I can access the live feed and give you updates.”

I give her the registration number for Genevieve’s ankle bracelet and wait for her to confirm she has it.

“Got it,” she says.

“Where is it now?”

“Fairgrounds. In, Seaside.”

“I know that,” I say drily. “Can you pinpoint?”

“You didn’t ask that,” she says.

I hear her typing rapidly, and then, “South end. That’s the best I can do.”

“You’re the best,” I tell her.

“I know,” she says before disconnecting.
