Roxie keeps her gun trained on Viktor.

Reed just watches it all with a smirk on his face.

“Why I help you?” Andrei asks me.

“It’s not so much helping me as it is cementing his fate.” I point to Viktor.

Andrei nods.

“Who was responsible for Katya’s death?”

“The drugs, everyone knows that.”

“Who okayed giving her the drugs?”

“She put them in her arm, give the okay.”

He knows what I’m asking, he just won’t answer it for whatever reason. Whether that’s because he’s guilty or Viktor is, I can’t yet tell. So, I ask another way.

“Did Viktor know David targeted Katya?”

“No.”

My stomach falls. It would make my life so much easier if Viktor killed both Katya and my mother. My killing him would then become a guilt-free experience. As it stands now, I’ve got to battle my own childhood indoctrination of how my father can do no wrong.

“Not at first,” Andrei continues.

I don’t stop the smile that takes over my face.

“Shut up!” Viktor hisses.

“But after he knew, he ask that we take care of. Is embarrassment he tells me.”

“Take care of how?” I ask.

“How you think?” Andrei smirks.

“Not with his own hands, that’s for sure.”

“No. With David. With me.”

I can’t describe the emotion that whorls through my body. Fury. Contempt. Grief. But I don’t regret the split-second decision I make. Turning to Viktor, I say, “You deserve worse.”

Then I raise my gun and shoot him square in the forehead. Watching as he falls to the ground, dead. After which, I turn to the side and vomit until there is nothing left in my stomach.
