“Fine.” I finish my coffee and go get another cup.

“My point being,” he says when I return, “is that there would be nothing odd about you and Mason getting together.”

“Except—”

My heart leaps into my throat.

He nods and drops the subject. We finish our coffee then take P-Tink with us to breakfast before he catches the water taxi back to Seattle. And I’m left on my own in my house once more.
