Chapter 25

sadie

I wish I could say I’m more excited about my date with Jason tonight. But after seeing Ethan this morning and touching him throughout the exercises, he’s all that’s on my mind. I hate it. I turn on some music to boost my mood and dance around my room. I move over to my dresser to pick a panty set for tonight. Which is when I see the note. Or notes. The crossed out one and the one Ethan wrote below it.

I laugh out loud as his presumption that I will just do what he asks.

Then I realize Iwilldo exactly what he asks of me. It’s only fair if I’m going to date, I include Ethan as well.

Even though you already know there will be no contest.

Okay, I can’t have that attitude. I have to go into this with an open mind. That’s the whole point. I’m just excited about Ethan because there’s sexual tension. And there’s only sexual tension because he’s so good looking. Then I hear my mama inside my head, “The good-looking ones are always players, Sadie Ann.”

Except for the guys who are with Kat, Remi, and Lexie,I tell myself.

Not that I find my cousin, Lexie’s husband, attractive. But, objectively, I know that he’s good looking. I also know he’s not a player.

Shit. That blows Mama’s theory.

Except, Ethan and his box of leftover panties shows he’s a player.

So, I guess there’s the balance.

My phone dings with an alarm, it’s an hour before I’m due to meet Jason.

Crap, I have to get ready!

I’m back home and dialing up a video chat with Tenley less than three hours later.

“Hey, bitch,” she answers.

“Hey, bitch,” I say back. “I’ve got a quick question.”

“No, I’m not ready to move there yet. But I might get close if RaeLynn don’t quit with her shit!” She yells the last part, I’m assuming at her sister, RaeLynn.

“Not that—”

“You don’t want me moving there now? You replaced me with some tall, tan California BFF already?”

“No, just listen.”

“Okay, sorry.”

“I was on a date.”

“With the hunky firefighter?”

“No, with a guy I met online.”

“What happened to the hunky firefighter?”

“It’s a long story.”

“I got time.”

“I’ll get to that part. Right now, I have to tell you about my date.”
