Chapter 42

Ethan

I wake before Sadie and watch her while she sleeps. Thinking about all the ways this could have gone differently and how grateful I am that it ended the way it did. I was serious last night when I told her I wanted this forever. I’d marry her today. I know it’s crazy, and I barely know her, and she was engaged to someone else a few months ago, and her mom hates me, but I still would. Because all that is just stuff. And what’s important is the two of us, together, working towards our future while still embracing the present.

I decide to make her coffee in bed, so I slide out from under the covers, grab my jeans from the floor, then head into the bathroom to take care of business and begin the arduous task of dressing. The good news is, it’s way easier to pee one-handed when I’m already naked.

I smell coffee when I open the bedroom door which is when I remember that Tenley is here. I head out to the kitchen and find her at my kitchen island, with a cup of coffee in hand, reading my newspaper.

“Hey, Tenley,” I say.

“Hey, god,” she says.

I look at her.

“Well, with how often that was said last night, I assumed it was your name.” She smirks.

I laugh. “Sorry about that.”

“Oh, never apologize for giving my best friend multiple orgasms. She deserves it.”

I nod and grab a mug to pour myself some coffee. “Thank you for making coffee.”

She waves it off. “I would have made breakfast too, but I wasn’t sure what time y’all would be awake.”

“I got up to make breakfast, but I forgot I only have one arm.”

“I don’t know, you seem to do okay,” she says, winking at me. I laugh.

“Hey, guys. How long have you been up?” Sadie walks into the kitchen, rubbing her eyes.

“I just got up,” I tell her. “Tenley made coffee, want some?”

“God, yes.” Sadie takes a seat next to Tenley at the island. I pour her a cup of coffee and hand it to her. She cradles it against her chest with both hands. “Thank you.”

“So.” Tenley turns to Sadie. “On a scale of one to five, how bowlegged are you this morning.”

I choke on the sip of coffee I’d just taken. “Excuse me?”

“Bowlegged,” Tenley says. “From getting fucked and having her legs wide open.”

“I know what it means,” I say. “I was just surprised you said it.”

“Oh, well, Sadie isn’t,” Tenley says.

Sadie shakes her head. “Nope. Tenley is fucking psychic.” She takes another sip of her coffee, then says, “The question is, Ethan, how bowlegged is Tenley?” She turns to Tenley, eyebrows raised.

Tenley thinks on it for a minute, then rubs her butt cheek. “I’m a little saddle sore. I’m going with a solid four.”

“Impressive,” Sadie says. “Me too.”

“A tie, really?” Tenley asks. “How pathetic.” She looks back to the paper and sips at her coffee.

“What am I missing?” I ask.

“It was a contest to see who got fucked harder last night.” Tenley says.

“And you? Wait, you and Spence?” I ask Tenley.
