I move to put it on the dresser in her room, next to her phone so she won’t miss it. Which happens to ding with a new text notification at the same time I am setting the note under it.

JASON: Hi Sadie. Just confirming our date tonight. Looking forward to it.

I’m tempted to erase it. But she would probably still go out on the date even if I did. This is ridiculous. She can’t just keep going out with other guys.

If she’s going out with other guys, then she’s going out with me.

I take my pen and put an X through what I wrote previously on my note and leave a new note below that.

I hear the shower turn off. I don’t really want to run into her. Not knowing she has a date. I can’t guarantee that anything coming out of my mouth would be polite.

But she’s all wet.

I shake my head to clear it. Now is not the time for thoughts about a wet Sadie. Instead, I leave her room and head out the door to work.
