“Unless you transfer your magic into a physical object, yes,” Leif responded. “But even then, you won’t have the same level of power you do now.”

“I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with my magic. My powers are both a gift and a curse. They’ve isolated me and made me witness things that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. But they’ve also saved my life many times over.” I glanced at Zoran, who was staring at me with apprehension. “But I’d give them up for a lifetime with you without a second thought. I'd like a fresh start.”

His lips curved into a gorgeous smile and he dropped to one knee before me, grabbing my hands.

“Are you sure?”

I nodded. “The only thing that makes me freak out a bit is… I’ll have to kill people to survive. Drink their blood. Ew. No offence.”

He chuckled and shook his head. “No, beautiful. Not if you give me your soul.”

“What?” I frowned, not understanding.

“When a vampire gives a demon their soul, they become dependent on us for their very survival. Our bond will run so deep that the only blood you’ll ever crave is mine. That's how my parents were. I’ll feed you, and you can take as much as you want, whenever you want. It won’t affect me. If anything, it makes us stronger.”

“Really?” The thought of drinking Zoran’s blood didn’t sound revolting at all. “Okay,” I said with a wide smile.

“There is something else…” Leif hesitated before speaking. We both looked over at his suddenly serious face. “You won’t just be giving up your magic, Darcie. Turned vampires are infertile. They can’t have children. So you haven't by any chance frozen your eggs? That's the only way we know that can work after turning.”

“Oh. No, I haven't. And I doubt I have time for it now,” I swallowed the shock and sat with my feelings for a moment.Honestly, I had never thought about children. I never saw them as part of my future, even when I had one. My magic would be too dangerous for a child to be around, so I had already come to terms with the fact I shouldn’t have children. But I had no idea how Zoran felt. I peered up at him to find him already staring at me. “Well, I’m going to die, anyway. So it’s kind of a pointless topic for me but… how do you feel about that?”

He squeezed my hands tightly. “I have no future without you, Darcie.”

“But do you want children in your future?” I asked quietly.

“Honestly, no. Not if I can’t have them with you,” he answered. “I only want you. My brother can continue our bloodline.”

I inhaled, feeling relief and kissed him. “Then let’s do it. You have to bite me to infect me, right?”

Zoran’s eyes burned with dark desire, causing my insides to flare with excitement. Who knew dying could be so enticing?

“Yeah. I don’t need to be here for this.” Leif stood up from the chair and created a portal but paused before stepping through it. “Unless… you want me to be?” he flirted and my head snapped around to find him smirking with a devilish twinkle in his eyes.

“Get the fuck out,” Zoran growled, glaring at his friend with ferocity. “You might be the only idiot I tolerate but flirt with my mate again and I’ll decorate the floor with your intestines.”

Leif chuckled, raising his hands innocently. “Easy, Z-dog. No need to go full murder mode on me. I’m only messing with you. But if you ever want an audience, you know I’m also a fan of dinner and a show.”

Zoran slowly rose to his feet with a menacing snarl on his face, his eyes blazing red and fangs snapping into place. “You’ll have no eyeballs to see anything soon if you don’t leave.”

“There you go, Darcie. I’ve riled him up for you. Just how you like him—rough, possessive and a little psycho, right? You can thank me later.” Leif winked at me.

Zoran lunged forward, and Leif yelped dramatically before diving through the shimmering portal, leaving behind the echo of his “Love youuuu” and his laughter. The portal closed just as Zoran swiped his hand through the air. I bit my lip hard, trying not to laugh at their banter. They were like chalk and cheese.

“Fucking warlock,” he muttered darkly, turning to me. “One day, he’ll fall ass-over-combat-boots for someone and when he does, I’m going to rip the shit out of him for it.”

“Is that your way of saying your ass-over-combat-boots for me?” I teased, standing up and walking over to him. He grabbed me by the throat and slammed his lips against mine with dark intent that made my insides melt into lava.

“Yes,” he growled against my lips. “Proudly.”

I smiled into the kiss, yanking open his belt as he backed me against the edge of the dining table.

“Leif was right about one thing. I do like you rough, possessive and a little bit psycho.”

“Perfect,” he growled, his voice deep with gravel and his eyes flaring with primal hunger. He shoved my thighs apart with urgency and yanked up my skirt to my waist like it offended him for just existing. “Because that’s exactly how I need to take you right now.”

His grip on my throat tightened, restricting my airways just enough to make my pulse spike. My gasp turned into a moan just as I freed his cock from his jeans, feeling it thick and heavy in my hand. He didn’t wait, just tore my underwear away and drove into me with one brutal, possessive thrust. My back arched unnaturally causing me to slam my hands on the table behind me for balance as his lips claimed mine in a bruising kiss that tasted like desperation and dominance. Gone was the man who made love to me in the shower this morning. Now I had the beast. And I loved it.

He fucked me with a wild, untamed rhythm at a punishing pace that made my body scream in submission. Every thrust stole the breath from my lungs and every stroke back out elicited sounds from me that I had no control over.
