“He put your luggage up?”

“It was that or I’d have had to scale the chairs like a pregnant squirrel with a cheekful of winter nuts. The world is not built for the height-challenged.”

Shannon chuckles.

“I meant to get some writing done. It’s only an hour and a half flight, but I wanted to do a little work on my current novel and incorporate some of the ideas that came to me during the conference. But I was so tired.

“So, I decided to close my eyes for a few minutes.”

“You fell asleep.”

“On him!” I cover my face with my hands.

“You didn’t!”

I peek out through my fingers. “I drooled on him. Shannon! I drooled on a total stranger!”

Shannon doubles over. “Oh, Jayme. This is the best.”

“It so isn’t. I mean. It’s one thing to fall asleep on the man. It’s a whole other thing to wake to a small wet circle on his shoulder caused by my drool! Gah! I wanted to die.”

“What did he do?”

“Honestly? Nothing much. He told me he could tell I must have been tired. Then he shrugged it off.”

“That was sweet.”

“It was, actually. Anyway. That’s not all of it.”

“There’s more?” Shannon rubs her hands in anticipation.

“This part had nothing to do with me. I made my way to the baggage claim. I could see Grant from across the carousel. He’s tall with dark features. Something about him makes him stand out in a crowd. Plus, Fiona was with him, moving around and chatting.

“I saw my suitcase come down the ramp. It was one of the first to descend, probably because they held it back, so it was the last bag to make it on the plane after that fiasco of me almost not making the flight. Anyway, I tugged it off the carousel and it flew open. All my clothes went flying around me onto the floor.

“Next thing I know, Grant was there. He and Fiona both bent down and started handing me my belongings.”

“Again, pretty sweet.”

“Yes. Until he touched my bra.”

“He what?”

“Not that way. It was on the floor so he handed it to me.”

“Oh, Jayme!”

“Yep. I’m three for three with the kill-me-now episodes in front of this man. Thankfully, I won’t ever have to see him again. Can’t say it was a dull trip, that’s for sure.”

“For sure! You’ll be laughing with the rest of us over all of this in a few months.”

“The rest of who?” I don’t need to ask.

“Our friends. You know we have to tell them.”

“I know. I know. Or. I could move to Corn Corners.”

“Don’t you dare. I don’t know what I’d do without you here in town. Even after I move out, we have to see each other nearly daily. And you have to come make me smoothies at least once a week. I’ll come clean the cat box for you in exchange.”
