"But?" she asks.
"I don't even know what's true and what's not right now. This woman turned up claiming to be pregnant with his kid—"
"What?" she screeches so loud that half the diner turns our way.
"Har," I snap.
"Sorry. Sorry. I just… I didn't see that coming."
"You're not the only one."
"So, what happened?" she asks eagerly, leaning forward to mirror me as she waits for the next installment.
"I ran straight to Luca and Leon. Made a few mistakes as they comforted me."
"Let?" Her eyes widen at my vagueness.
"The less you know, the better."
"I'm not a kid," she snaps, assuming her age is the reason I don't want to go there.
"I know, Har. I'm just… mortified. It's all such a mess."
"Okay. Continue please."
I very briefly summarize what went down in the Dunn's kitchen while she stares at me, eating it all up as if she's watching her favorite TV show.
"He said she's not pregnant?"
"That's what he said, but how can I trust that after everything?"
"Who was she?"
I shrug. "No idea. Blonde woman. Bit older than him, maybe. Beautiful. Like totally flawless."
"Alana," Harley seethes.
"Wait. You know her?"
"Yes," she hisses, her distaste of the woman clear on her face. "She's a conniving bitch. I can't stand her."
My lips part but I can't decide which one of the million questions that are spinning around in my head to ask first.
"They're not a couple. They've never been a real couple, if that helps at all."
"So what are they then?"
"I mean, I don't really know. Some weird kind of arrangement. Every time I bring it up, Kyle tells me to keep my nose out of it," she sulks.
"But they've been seeing each other for a while."
"Yeah," she admits with a wince. "But I really don't think he likes her, and I'm not just saying that because she's an annoying bitch."
"But he's been sleeping with her?" I ask, unable to hide the hurt in my voice.
"Yeah, but not very often. Well, not at the house all that often."
My stomach turns as I think about him being with another woman. Taking a woman to a house that he's never taken me to. It shouldn't hurt as much as it does, but I can't stop it.
