"I wouldn't know that while you've been acting like you don't give a fuck if he's dead or alive that you've been fighting like hell to find his whereabouts?"
I shake my head and laugh at him.
"You've even sent men to England thinking that they smuggled him across the pond. There's only one idiot here right now, Victor. And I can assure you that it's not me."
"Where the fuck is my son, Legend?"
"Why the fuck do you think I'd tell you that?"
My heart thunders in my chest when he reaches around his back and pulls out his gun, clicking off the safety and aiming it right at my head.
"Go on shoot me, but I can assure you that you'll never find him if you do."
"Vic," Maverick pleads.
"I don't give a shit about you or your business, Victor. I want to be as far away from you and everything you stand for as possible. I'll keep your fucking secrets, how sick and twisted you are. It'll be like I was never here."
"And Alana and Gray?" he asks as if he's considering my offer.
"In time, I'll make sure they're delivered back to you safely."
"In time?" he asks like it's the most absurd thing he's ever heard.
"Yeah. Forgive me, Victor, but you're an untrustworthy cunt so I won't be handing them over the second you let me walk out of this room. You'll get Alana first, because I actually feel a little sorry for Maverick. He's clearly in love with a woman he shouldn't be for whatever fucked-up reason. Then Gray will follow if, and only if, you keep to your end of the deal and let me get on with my life."
He stares at me, his jaw ticing with frustration as his outstretched arm begins to tremble.
"So?"

The sound of a gunshot makes our race through the Hawks clubhouse slow for a beat.
"Kane," I whimper, fear for what that might have been races through me, paralyzing me. "No, no, no."
Reid reaches out and wraps his arm around my shoulder. Being comforted by him is weird. I should be scared of him, everyone else sure is. But as his warmth hits me, thankfully, it helps drag me back to the here and how and what we came for.
"Let's go," I say, swallowing down my fear and taking a step forward.
Reid leads me down a long dark hallway that I feel like I should remember, but I don't. My memories of my short time here are vague at best, aside from those minutes I was awake and sitting in the chair, the rest is just a blur.
The second we come to a closed door, Reid reaches out and swings it open.
"Stay here," he warns as he slips inside, but I'm long past doing what I'm told and the second he steps into the room, I bolt in after him.
"Oh my God," I cry when my eyes land on the illuminated figure that's laying on the floor, a small pool of blood beneath him. "What the fuck have you done?" I scream, racing toward Kane.
I don't feel anything as my knees collide with the concrete floor and I don't register Reid's low growl as he chastises me for defying his orders.
"Kane, Kane," I repeat, pressing my hand to his neck in the hope of feeling a pulse.
His face is black and blue, both eyes swollen and his lips cut with blood trickling down his chin, but those injuries aren't the ones that terrify me the most because that would be the hole in his shoulder.
"I-I'm okay," he manages.
"Kane! Oh my fucking God," I sob, leaning forward and wrapping my arms around him the best I can.
