Walking into sociology the next morning, I couldn't shift the nerves that were making my entire body tremble knowing that Kane was going to be in class and I didn't have anyone else around me.
I didn't need them. I could handle Kane alone, they're just a nice security blanket.
With my head held high, I found a seat knowing that his eyes were on me, and I did my best to focus before walking out before he got a chance to get near me.
Leon's words from the night before about him needing me rang out in my ears but I told myself that I tried to be the bigger person, I took myself to his house to talk it out and he took what he wanted and sent me on my way.
If he needs me, if he wants to attempt to move forward with this then it's on his head now.
Not looking back as I walked from the room was hard, really fucking hard, but I forced myself to stay strong.
Our afternoon was similar, only I had the added protection of West and Brax to ensure I didn't do something stupid like take myself to the back of the room and sit beside him just so I can feel him next to me, have his scent filling my nose.
Everything was different this morning because I walked into the Anderson Building with Ella at my side ready for our psych class. I knew I didn't have any classes with him and that as soon we were done here, I was heading home to continue working so that I could take the weekend off with Harley.
"Can't I even tempt you with a cupcake?" Ella asks as we walk out of class after everyone else seeing as she wanted to talk to Professor Collins about her paper.
The hallway is quiet as we make our way toward the exit and my guard is totally down. Probably exactly how he planned it.
"Nope. I'm going back and working all afternoon."
"Fine, I'll just have to hope there's a hot boy in there who'll invite me to join him."
"I have everything crossed for you, El," I joke as a door just ahead of us opens and a body emerges right before me.
"Do you—fuck," I bark in fright when his hand goes around my throat and I twist into the doorway he just emerged from.
"What the fuck are you doing, you psycho?" Ella screams at Kane as I'm rendered useless by his touch alone.
My heart thunders in my chest so hard that I feel it in every one of my limbs.
"Go and enjoy your cupcake. Letty is otherwise engaged," he growls, letting us know he heard everything we just said.
"I'm not leaving you with her, not after everything—"
"I-it’s okay, El," I say when I finally find my voice but I don't look at her, I'm too lost in Kane's heated stare.
"No, no, it's really not. This asshole doesn't get to use—"
"Do as you're fucking told, Ella," Kane snaps, his voice cold and deadly. It should scare me, I'm sure it does most people but that's not the effect Kane Legend has on me or my body because I melt at his vicious demanding tone.
It's my ultimate weakness, and I'm beginning to wonder if it's always been the case.
I don't hear her leave, I'm too focused on the heat of his fingers against my sensitive skin and the wicked intent in his heated eyes.
The door slamming makes me squeal in fright as Kane steps closer to me.
"Scared, Princess?"
"Of you?" I ask with a smirk. Leaning in, I stop right before our noses touch. "Never."
"Wrong fucking answer, baby."
His fingers tighten a beat before his lips slam down on mine.
My fingers claw at the hand that's still holding me around the throat as I keep my lips together, refusing to give into him. We need to talk. We need to act like grown-ups, not sex-crazed teenagers.
