"Luc, what happened?"
"This?" he says, pointing to his face. "Lee and I got into it."
"You were fighting? Why?"
He shrugs, kicking off his sneakers, pulling his hoodie over his head, and crawling into bed with me.
"Not important. Missed you," he murmurs, throwing my computer to the end of the bed and pulling me into his arms.
His scent surrounds me along with his heat and I immediately relax in his arms.
"I was only gone for the weekend."
"I know, but I only just got you back."
Guilt once again swamps me knowing that I had a hand in allowing us to go our separate ways for a couple of years.
"I'm back now."
"I'm sorry for Thursday night. I kinda lost it a bit."
He releases me, and I reach for his hand, vaguely remembering him punch my wall. Although, most of my memories of what happened after Kane disappeared is kind of a blur.
"Did you even clean this?"
"It'll be fine. You should see the guy who was at the other end." He smiles, but it's forced.
"Tell me you didn't beat the shit out of Leon because of me."
His eyes bounce between mine but the words that finally fall from his lips don’t make me feel any better.
"Don't worry about us, Let."
"But—" He presses two fingers against my lips and shakes his head so slightly that I almost miss it.
I'm so lost in his sparkling green eyes that I don't even notice his fingers slip from my lips.
"About this?" he asks, his fingertip circling one of Kane's marks.
My temperature soars as I think about him sucking on my skin and I hate myself for it.
"What's really going on here? I thought you hated him." Luca's words are forced, his movements controlled as he waits for my answer.
"Um…" I hesitate, averting my eyes so I don't have to look into his kind ones. Ones that should make my blood boil and my body come alive.
Why couldn't it have been him? I ask myself for the millionth time.
It would have been so much simpler.
"I do hate him. There is nothing going on. It was an exorcism."
"It was… right," he sighs. His brows pulling together as he struggles to understand.
I get it. It makes no fucking sense in my head either.
"Is it… is it over?"
"It never started. It was… a mistake."
