Not feeling any better about the situation as I head toward our lit class, I keep my head up and smile when I approach Leon, who's loitering outside the lecture hall.
"Hey, you waiting for someone?" I ask, looking over my shoulder.
"Yeah, you."
I look up at him and open my lips to say something but he beats me to it.
"Are you okay?"
Tears fill my eyes as he looks at me with concern in his.
"Yeah, everything is fine."
His brows rise in suspicion.
"Do I need to kick his ass already?" he asks with a smirk.
"No. You don't need to get involved. How's Luc?"
A sad smile pulls at Leon's lips and it's all the answer I need.
"He'll be fine. You coming in?"
I look over my shoulder on the off-chance that he's about to walk through the door and sweep me into his arms. I already know he's not going to be there, but still, a disappointed sigh falls from my lips.
"Come on, Cupcake," Leon says, wrapping his arm around my shoulder and turning me toward the door.
He takes me to our usual seats but instead of sitting in between the twins, Leon takes my usual seat, separating me from Luca.
I look over at him, but despite the fact I know he's aware of my presence, he doesn't look at me. It's like Monday all over again and I hate it.

"Anything?" Ella asks me when I find her loitering outside my lit class ready to head back to dorms.
"Nope." Her expression drops until movement over my shoulder catches her eye.
"We should go," she says, coming to stand beside me and threading her arm through mine.
Glancing over my shoulder, I find Leon, Luca, and Colt walking out of the lecture hall.
"Anything I need to know about?" I ask as we step into the late afternoon sun.
"Absolutely not. So the guys have practice, you're stressing over Kane. Let's go relax."
"El, I've got a ton of work to do."
"It'll still be there when we get back. Come on." She tugs on my arm harder, making me move faster.
"Where are we going?"
"Surprise. Pack a bag, grab a swimsuit and put your troubles behind you."
I wish I could say that the excitement twinkling in her eyes was infectious but still, all I can feel in my belly is the heavyweight of my dread for what's to come with Kane.
Something is off, I might not be able to put my finger on what, but I know it's not going to be good.
I'm in the bathroom trying to do something with my hair when my cell finally rings. My brush clatters to the counter before dropping to the floor as I run from the room.
