I tell him about the cameras and setting them up in the Harris house. "I have no idea what he was trying to find out really but he thinks they're lying to him, clearly."

"I do," he states.

"Y-you do?"

"Sweetheart, I know more than I ever wanted to. I've ended up in deeper than I ever expected. D-did, Reid look after you?"

"W-what?" I stutter, getting whiplash from his sudden topic change.

"Reid, after he took you out, did he look after you?"

"Uh… y-yeah, he did."

"Okay good. Scarlett, I need you to promise me something, okay?"

"Um… s-sure," I whisper, not liking the harsh tone of his voice.

The rumble of an engine fills the silence around us as I wait for what he's about to hit me with but neither of us pay it any mind as it comes to a stop and a door slams.

"I need you to stay away from him. Away from the Harrises and anyone connected with them."

My lips part to respond when the trailer door crashes back against the wall and a cold, angry voice booms, making every hair on my body stand on end.

Ishowed up for practice after class with the best intentions despite the fact my body was still screaming at me from this morning's session. I'm desperate to get back to normal, to get out on the field and feel that leather beneath my fingertips. But Coach took one look at me and firmly sent me away, much to Luca's relief if his smug as fuck smirk over Coach's shoulder told me anything. I flipped him off before I left, but it didn't really sate my need for what I really wanted to do to him.

I saw the way he blanked Letty in class this morning. The way he refused to so much as look at her when she clearly so desperately wanted to talk to him, and then the way he all but ran from the auditorium the second Whitman had finished.

When Letty explained to me that she'd told them the truth about where she'd been, I knew they'd both be pissed. But for Luca to blank her. That I was not expecting. I thought he was too infatuated with her to even consider that. Interesting.

Knowing she's not going to be expecting me, I head to her dorm. I warned her that I'd fight to prove that she's wrong and that may as well start now seeing as I'm not wanted elsewhere.

"Oh look, he's back for another round," Ella mutters, barely glancing up from her notebook on the dining table when I storm into their dorm for the second time in the day.

"She in her room?" I ask, marching that way before she's even answered.

"Nope."

That one word stops me in my tracks.

"Okay, so where is she?"

Slowly, she drags her eyes from what she's doing as if I'm seriously inconveniencing her right now.

"Why would I tell you that?"

"Because you're not fucking stupid."

"You keep hurting her, Kane. Over and over." My teeth grind and my fist curl at her words.

"And this is anything to do with you because…"

"Because she's my friend and she's hurting. She doesn't want you here. She doesn't want you near her."

"Are those her words or yours because I happen to know that she loves it when I'm near her."
