The second I push through the door everyone is on their feet and running at me.
"I'm fine. I'm fine," I argue as Ella runs her eyes all over me in a rush. Thankfully, my wild hair covers the sutures Kane put over my wound.
Happy with what she sees, she throws her arms around my shoulders.
"Do I need to go kill him in his sleep?" she whispers in my ear, making me wonder what she told the others if she's keeping her voice down.
"No, everything is fine. I promise."
"Okay." She gives me a little squeeze before she releases me.
"What the hell, Let?" Brax barks as him and West stand with their chests puffed out.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry any of you."
"Look, we get it, okay? But don't run off like that again, I don't care if you've seen the fucking Queen."
I glance at Ella who just smiles at me and winks.
"I'm really sorry. My cell died and… it was irresponsible of me."
"Seeing as you're safe, we'll let you off this time," West says. "But Luca and Leon have been going out of their minds. They might be a harder sell."
My stomach drops as I think of them. No matter what I'm going to tell them, whether it be lies or the truth, they're not going to be happy with me. I'm actually amazed they're not sitting here waiting.
As if he can read my mind, Micah pipes up. "They've been here all morning in the hope you'd appear. We sent them home knowing you were safe." He gives me a knowing smile which makes me think he knows exactly where I was too.
"I'll call them in a bit, I just really need to get into my own clothes." I look down at myself and wince when I notice that the hoodie he gave me is an MKU Panthers one.
So much for being discreet, Something tells me that if I were to look at the back, it's probably got his number on it too, to just really nail home that I'm lying to my friends.
"You hungry?" Violet asks, returning to her spot in the kitchen where I assume she's making dinner.
"Not right now, but I'd love something later."
"You got it. Enchiladas tonight."
"My favorite night of the week," West announces, rubbing his belly like a little kid.
"I can't wait," I say, moving toward my room, aware that Ella is hot on my heels.
I leave my door open, allowing her to walk in behind me and lower my purse to my dresser as I walk toward the window.
I don't know why I do it, but I'm not in the least surprised when I find Kane down there staring up at me.
My breath catches despite my strong suspicion, and it doesn't go unnoticed by Ella.
"What's wrong?"
"N-nothing," I stutter, stepping away and turning to look at her. "Go on then, ask away," I say with a smirk.
"No questions. You can just tell me however much you're happy to."
With a sigh, I curl up on my bed, and she mimics my move at the other end.
It would be so easy to skim over everything, keep it all locked up inside, but there's something inside me begging me to just rip the Band-Aid off and let it out.
I've confessed to Kane now, and it was important that he was the first one to hear what had happened after Mom. Now it's time to say the words and attempt to properly move forward.
