Okay, so it’s stretching the truth slightly but there’s no way I’m staying in bed all day and fucking up my first year at college before it’s even started.
Feeling Ellis’ stare burning into the top of my head, I look up at him as his lips part as if he wants to say something.
“Spit it out,” I bark, irritated that he’s holding back.
“W-what happened?”
“What do you mean?”
“What happened with Letty that you ended up driving headfirst into a truck.”
“I didn’t do it knowingly,” I snap.
“No. But whatever went down was bigger than those cameras, right?”
I narrow my eyes at him, wondering where he’s figured this out from.
“Micah,” he says, answering my unspoken questions. “They all heard you screaming at each other.”
My heart begins to race at the prospect of others witnessing what went down between us Thursday night. Of hearing what she confessed to me.
Who the hell am I kidding, I’m probably the last one to know.
The one person who should have been party to the truth about the fallout of that night.
My fists curl under the table.
I need to see her.
I need to hear the truth.
Let her confess all her fucking sins so I can decide what I’m going to do with her.
"What did he say?" I pin Ellis with a look that most would reel away from, but he sits firm, not intimidated in the least.
"Nothing, just that it sounded brutal."
You have no idea.
"It was a long time coming."
"So I'm assuming it was about Riley," he correctly guesses.
"Partly."
"Right. Well, I'm guessing you need a lift," he says, downing his coffee and standing from the table.
"Yeah, my car is…" I wince, wondering what state my baby is in. "Where is my car?"
"Fuck knows. Scrap heap. Sorry," he whispers the last word when he sees the color drain out of my face. "I guess that's something else you can blame her for, eh?"
"You think I should let it all go too, don't you?"
He's halfway across the room but pauses at my words.
"Kane," he sighs, looking back over his shoulder at me. "It's not my place to tell you how to feel and how to deal with it all. What I do know, is that she never would have planted those cameras off her own back, and we need to know what Vic is playing at."
"Agreed."
