Eventually she gets impatient and she makes her way over.
“Hey.”
“Hey, yourself.” My eyes drop from hers, taking in every inch of her and committing it to memory. “Did you have a good day?”
“It was incredible. Thank you so much.”
“It was totally worth it. This dress is...fuck, I don’t even know what it is. Where’ve you been hiding it? I’d have remembered if it was in your collection last weekend.”
“Erica kept hold of it for me to surprise you.”
“Well, I’m certainly surprised. Although I’m not all that impressed that every guy I work with is also seriously surprised by it.”
“Better show them who I belong to then.”
Challenge shines in her eyes. I wait for a beat until she thinks I’m not going to take her up on it before reaching for her waist. She lets out a squeal as we collide. I wrap my hand around the back of her neck and pull her lips to mine.
Shouts, catcalls and wolf whistles sound out behind me, but I pay my idiot co-workers no attention as I put all my focus into kissing my girl.
When I eventually pull back, her eyes are glistening with lust and her tits are swollen and fighting to get out of her dress. If it wasn’t so fucking incredible to look at, I might want to make her change back into a twinset to ensure those babies are for my eyes only.
“Come on, we need to order,” Lauren calls out behind me. After another two seconds we make our way to our seats.
I get a few winks and slaps on the back from the guys before they greet Quinn politely. I’ve known a few of these guys for a long time now. They know exactly what I’m like, seeing as we’ve been on more than a few nights out and heard me bang on and on about never getting tied down, but they all accept Quinn like she’s a permanent part of my life—which I’m grateful for, because that’s exactly what she is.
The meal’s incredible and the service fantastic, but nothing is more mind-blowing than the woman sitting beside me. She joins in with everyone’s conversations like she’s known them all her life, she’s charming and funny, and she has everyone wrapped around her little finger in mere minutes. It makes me so sad to think that the previous man in her life kept her locked up like she was in a fucking prison and stopped her enjoying herself like this.
“Are you okay? You’ve got a serious look in your eyes that I’m not sure I like,” she asks when there’s a break in the conversation.
“I’m good. Just trying to figure out what I did to deserve to have you sitting beside me.”
She shrugs. “You decided to better your life and instead you found me.”
“There’s nothing instead about it. You have made my life better. Fuck it, you’vemademy life.”
Her eyes soften as she smiles at me. I’m so close to telling her that we’ll sack off the rest of the night in favour of heading home when Ben announces that we’re on the move.
Everyone gets up and grabs their coats. A few of the older members of staff bid us farewell as they head off home for a mug of cocoa and their slippers, but the rest of us move to our usual haunt, The Avenue.
The last time I was here it was the night I’ve since discovered Quinn was watching me. She’s told me more than once that she was jealous of the people I was dancing with that night and how we could just forget the world and enjoy ourselves. Well, I fully intend on giving her all of that. It might not be the one night-stand she wanted, but I have every intention of taking her home with me tonight.
After two rounds of shots bought by the boss, we head out to the dance floor. I waste no time in pulling her into me and moving with the beat of the music. She looks back at me and her smile is wider than I think I’ve ever seen it before. The realisation of how much weight has been lifted off her since the last time we were in a club hits me and I drop my lips to hers.
Turning in my arms, she tucks her hands into the back pockets of my trousers and pulls me tightly to her. I lose myself to her kiss and to the beat of the music.
I’ve done this a million times before, danced until I forgot the world around me, but having her in my arms feels like the first time I’ve ever done it. I meant what I said to her earlier: meeting her really did make my life. All the bullshit from my past melts away, my parents, my endless encounters with strangers as I tried to connect with someone in a way I didn’t know I needed to. They all fade to nothing, and the only thing I can think about is my future with my girl.
We drink, we dance, and we laugh. Time seems to stand still as I enjoy my evening with my favourite people. At some point Eddie joined us. He was apparently meant to be spending the evening with his douchebag friends (Quinn’s words, not mine) in the VIP section but instead decided to slum it with us peasants. At one point he even found himself a girl to dance with. Maybe there is more to him than meets the eye.
I’ve no idea what the time is, but in the end my need for Quinn gets the better of me. I’ve no idea what she’s got hiding under that dress—if anything, it’s so damn tight—but I can’t wait any longer to find out.
“We’re leaving. I’ve got somewhere better to be.”
“Oh yeah?” she breathes in my ear.
“Yeah. Inside you.”
Taking her hand, I lead her away from the dance floor and our friends.
