I open my mouth to demand he tells me what’s going on when he suddenly drops down onto one knee.
My eyes open so wide I fear they might be about to pop out of my head as he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small black box.
Holy shit.
“Quinn, I never ever thought I’d be doing this. I spent most of my life trying to find a piece of me that I didn’t know I was missing, and then when I met you everything fell into place. “My life started the day I walked into your classroom, and I don’t want to live another day without you.
“So…if you’ll have me, will you do me the greatest honour of agreeing to be my wife?”
A sob rumbles up my throat and the tears filling my eyes fall down onto my cheeks. I watch him pull open the box in his hand and reveal the most stunning and unique engagement ring I think I’ve ever seen in my life.
“Is that a black diamond?” I ask, reaching for it, not believing what I’m seeing. The princess cut black gem is cushioned in a rose gold band. It’s breath taking and so Joe. It’s just more proof that he gets me. He understands the rebel inside me and allows me to set her free.
“Is that a yes?”
“Of course it’s a yes. A million times yes.”
He’s up from the pavement and has me in his arms in a second. He spins us around, clinging to me so slightly I worry my ribs might be about to crack.
“I love you so fucking much, Quinn.”
“I love you, too.” His lips find mine and as the sun rises behind us we celebrate the next chapter of our lives. Together.
I never wanted a white knight, and it turns out that the bad boy in the dirty work van was exactly what I needed.
