Wes mimes tossing the knife aside then he turns to his girlfriend. "Everything good, angel?"
She nodsyeah. "You flirting with poor Ariel?"
"No…" He motionsa little. "Can't help myself when I see glasses."
"That's our entire relationship? Your lust for librarians." She pushes her glasses up her nose.
"Pretty much." He wraps his arms around her. "Is that okay?"
"Well…"
He kisses her neck. "Because I have this idea about sneaking back to one of the stacks."
Chase clears his throat. "You realize Mom is in the kitchen?"
"Oh, yeah, I forgot, you never hooked up with a girl in this house." Wes rolls his eyes. He slips right back into his seductive tone. "I think I learned something new in the last book I read. I want to show you."
Quinn stifles a groan.
"Take it upstairs." Hunter rolls his eyes. "Nobody wants to watch."
"Griffin would," Wes says.
"Then go to his place." Hunter shakes his head. "Is he always this annoying?"
"I'd know?" I ask.
"He is." Chase's voice is different. Harder. "He's worse at the shop."
"Always flirting with Em." Hunter nods.
Quinn just laughs. "Down boy." She takes a step backward. Smooths her fifties style dress. A velvet shift dress in a deep shade of plum.
God, she looks like she walked off a magazine cover. How does anyone get their hair and makeup that right?
How am I going to teach Charlotte about these fashion rules?
Maybe Quinn can help. Or Skye. If she and Forest are set on staying friends forever…
God, my head is spinning.
"You need a drink, princess?" Chase stands. He cuts between Quinn and Wes. Moves around the table to me.
I hug him hello.
He pulls me closer. "You're glowing."
"Thank you."
"Fuck, I want to take you upstairs." He pulls back enough to kiss me. It's hard, hungry, aggressive.
It's about more than how much he wants me.
It's about something going on behind those impenetrable blue eyes.
But I don't ask what it is.
It feels too good being the center of his attention. It feels too good believing his love is for me.
