"I'd rather be at your place. But—"

"Can I come? Instead." The words spill from my lips before I can stop them. "I mean, before ours. Early. Or maybe after. Uh, when do you do dinner?"

"Late." His eyes bore into mine. "Are you sure?"

I nod.

"You using this delicate moment to manipulate me?"

"Maybe. I don't mean to."

"Are you gonna tell your brothers?"

"Not yet."

"They'll be happy for you."

"No. It's more…" My lips press together. "If I don't make it through the first trimester, I don't know if I can handle their disappointment on top of mine."

He nods with understanding. "Princess, you look so nervous."

"Too nervous?"

"No." He runs his fingers over my jaw. "I get it. But it's not exactly—"

"It's obvious something is up?"

He nodsyeah.

"And your family… if I come to Thanksgiving, they'll know—"

"They're good at keeping secrets."

That's true. "I had no idea your mom was an alcoholic."

He chuckles.

Oh, shit. "Sorry, that was—"

"Perfect." He leans down and presses his lips to mine. "You're invited. I'll make sure we do dinner at seven. And I can stop by your place first. But they will ask questions."

"Okay."

"We should decide how we want to answer them."

That's true. "Maybe I'll just go to your place."

He nodssure.

"And well… I should probably." I hug the test tighter. "I should probably find this out first."

He nodsyeah.

"So, uh… I guess there's no sense in waiting. And I, uh… God I really have to pee." I break our embrace. Move to the bathroom before he can reply.

I can't answer any questions.

I can't think.
