"You'll still be my family."
"If we break up and you meet someone else?" She traces the tattoo of her name. "How are you going to explain this?"
"My love of Shakespeare."
She laughs. "That will only work until she meets me."
"I'll have to find a woman who can't put those pieces together."
"Uh-huh."
My lips brush hers. Fuck, she tastes good, like mint toothpaste and Jules. "No." I pull back with a sigh. I have to tell her the truth. Every ounce of it. "You're it for me."
Her eyes bore into mine.
"You've always been it."
"Griff—"
"I know you don't like pressure, but I can't lie to you, Jules. You've ruined me for other women."
She swallows hard. "You really think so?"
"I know so."
"So, um, is this what married people do? Make big, romantic declarations?"
"That's what your parents do."
She nodstrue. "They, um, they do stay in touch when he's away."
I raise a brow.
She cringes. "I guess, well, I guess we get to say what our married life is like."
"Yeah."
The waitress interrupts with our drinks.
Jules thanks her, then she brings her matcha latte to her lips and lets out a low, deep sigh.
"You trying to torture me, baby?"
She takes another sip. Lets out another sigh. "Mmm."
"That's a yes."
"The world doesn't revolve around you."
"You sure?" I wrap my fingers around my mug. "I think it might."
Jules makes a show of rolling her eyes.
"Married couples do this."
"Think the universe revolves around them?"
"Tease each other."
