"Yeah." I look into his eyes. "If she'll have me."

"You're that sure?"

"It's Jules."

His laugh bounces around the room. "Fuck, Griff. Either you're blessed with a gift for clarity or you're out of your fucking mind."

"Maybe both."

His laugh gets louder. "Maybe both."

Maybe I am crazy.

Maybe this is stupid.

But I know what I want.

I just don't know what the hell my best friend needs.

Chapter Thirty

"Hey." Jules greets me with a sleepy smile. Her eyes fix on mine for a moment. Then they shift to the tattoo on my forearm and her smile disappears.

"I brought you something." I offer her the takeout coffee cup in my left hand.

Her fingers brush mine as she takes it.

My body buzzes from her touch.

Right now, it's obvious. I need her. I need this.

If she needs something else—

There's an easy way to figure this out.

I have to ask her.

To have the painful conversation.

To open myself up to a bitch-slap from the truth.

Usually, I'm good at that.

Or maybe I'm all wrong about myself. Maybe I'm only capable of taking hard truths because I'm not invested enough to care.

With Jules, it's different. I'm all in.

There's no easy way to do this. I have to talk to her. Figure out what she needs. Even if it's not what I want.

"Thank you." She takes a long sip. Lets out a low, deep moan.

My balls tighten.

My wife is moaning over her matcha latte.
