"How'd you know?" I tease. Fuck, it's weird seeing Chase with booze. But it's good. Means he's getting over his brother's betrayal.

"Same shit you always do." He takes a swig. Turns to Jules. "I tell you about the time your husband invited me to a threesome?"

Jules's eyes go wide. "No. He… You… Really?"

Chase chuckles. "He was at a bar with a girl. She was begging for a third, I guess. So he texted me." He raises his voice an octave. "Hey, Chase. You busy tonight? You want to double team this babe with me?"

"He did not." Jules stares in horror.

Chase nodshe did.

"He said 'double team this babe'?" she asks.

"Yeah." He pulls his cell from his back pocket. "I took a screenshot."

"You…" She looks to me. "When?"

Honestly, I've had a lot of those conversations. It's hard to recall an exact one. But I do remember Chase's reaction. "About two years ago."

"What did you say?" she looks to Chase.

I drop my voice an octave to imitate him. "There's no fucking way I'm taking your sloppy seconds, Prince. I know this is your idea of a compliment, but I'm not interested."

Chase chuckles. Continues imitating me. "You can go first. Come on. The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else."

I laugh too. "He went on for a while after that. A lot of shit about how that's bullshit. And he can hold onto his feelings about his ex for as long as he wants."

"Uh… okay… Did you…" Jules looks to me. "Did you find someone else?"

"Of course." I can't help but laugh. "I aim to please."

"Oh." Her face goes white. She stammers. Tries to find her footing. "So, um… you think you missed out, Chase?"

He shakes his head. "Never got the big deal."

"About threesomes?" She turns her head to one side. "Don't guys usually want two chicks going at it?"

"Casual sex." He takes another swig of beer. "Doesn't appeal to me."

"Really?" Her eyes go wide. "And you… but hasn't it been a long time?"

He nodsyeah. "Two years, yeah."

"Two years without sex? But… you… how?" She presses her lips together. "I mean, I guess… probably longer, right?"

He shoots me a curious look.Is she okay?

I nodyeah. I mean, I think she is. I know Jules better than I know anyone, but I can't always read her. She hid so much. For so long.

I don't blame her, exactly.

But how can I be sure I know her now?

How can I be sure she's being honest?

She still hasn't accepted my terms.

She hasn't promised she'll try. She hasn't promised she'll always be honest.
