"Mal's too, but there's no stopping that."
She nods. "I understand. Mal and Ethan are handsome."
"I'd hope you find your boyfriend attractive."
She laughs. "Yeah. And Kit too. He's hot and intense and he has that tongue piercing."
Now, I have to laugh.
"What?"
"You're as tactless as you say."
"I know." She frowns. "It's awful." She pulls her legs onto her chair and sets cross-legged.
"Violet, I love you like a sister, but I'm not stupid. I know you'll take Ethan's side." Even though I really, really want to tell her.
She shakes her head. "You're my friend. Anything you want me to keep private is just between us.”
I'm not sure about that.
She taps her fingers against her knee. "That tongue piercing, huh?"
God, she really has no tact. I laugh until my sides hurt. "Subtle."
"Thank you."
"You should try the blunt approach."
"Okay." She folds her hands in her lap and stares into my eyes. "Did you and Kit have sex?"
Talking to her about it makes it real.
Slowly, I nod. "We did."
Her eyes light up. "Really?"
"Really."
"Is it serious?"
"He's my boyfriend."
Her face lights up as she smiles. "Really?"
"Really."
She jumps to her feet to hug me. "He's so lucky to have you. I'll tell him every day."
I laugh. "I guess that's fair, since I tell Ethan he's lucky to have you every day. But, um... Ethan doesn't know yet."
"I can talk to him," she offers.
"No, he's still... I should be the one to talk to him." It will be a lot worse if he feels like he's the last to know.
She nods. "Okay, our secret."
