Chapter Fifteen

Hunter

The host leads us to a table in the corner. Pulls out Emma's chair. Offers me the wine list.

I shake my head. "My friend is only nineteen."

Emma shoots me areallylook. It's puredon't be such a drag.

She believes I'm doing this for her.

Because I don't want her drinking.

That I'm not fun.

That's perfect.

"So…" She picks up her napkin and folds it in her lap. "You worked at Blacklist Tattoo for a long time."

I turn to her and arch a brow.

Her checks just barely flush. "It's all on your Instagram."

"You're stalking me?"

"It's public. And I was looking for the shop. We're always pushing for more followers."

"Probably easiest with Dean."

She chuckles. "Yeah. He tends to show off his abs."

"And your brother?"

"He used to be like you. All pics of tattoos. Nothing else. But once he started dating Kaylee, it was all cute pics all the time. It's disgusting." Her nose scrunches in distaste. "I'm not sure which of them is more popular."

"That must be hard."

"It's not a big deal." She presses her lips together. "I'm happy for them."

"Still."

Her voice drops to something more earnest. "I miss her. She's still my best friend. But I… I know he comes first."

"I'm sure she comes first."

"Oh my God." Her entire face scrunches. "Gross."

Fuck, she's adorable. "Don't you think?"

"I think I'd rather jam breadsticks in my eyes than discuss this." She motions to the empty table. "Where are the breadsticks?"

I hail the server. Request bread, and water.

She shoots me that sameyou're such a draglook.

She's playing it up.

She's not the type to bust out a fake ID for eight dollar a glass wine.
