"I want you to be happy, Wil. I love you. I don't trust Tom as far as I can throw him, but if you trust him, if you love him—I'm not going to get in the way of that." He walks me to the door. "I can't promise I won't hurt him if he is playing you."

"No violence."

Drew nods. "There are other ways to make his life miserable."

"Don't leave the band, Drew. It's everything to you."

"You want to be free to fuck whoever you want, fine. I'm just as free to associate with whoever I want."

There's no arguing that point. "Will you get another tattoo with me? If he does break my heart?"

"Not sure." He opens the door and nudges go. "Might be hard to get tattoos together if I'm convicted of murder."

He smiles.

He's joking, thank goodness.

"That's not funny," I say. But I laugh anyway. "I can't believe you're my favorite brother."

"Can't believe you're my favorite sibling." He one-ups me. His expression gets serious. "Good luck."

"Thanks."

I take a deep breath as I walk back to the party.

The door is still open. The room is quiet. No doubt, everyone is waiting to see whether or not I survived my conversation with Drew.

I step inside and scan the room. There are a lot of worried expressions. On some of the roadies. On Meg and Kara and even the usually aloof Miles.

None of that matters.

There's no sign of Tom.

And from the way everyone is looking at me with pity, there's no way the news is good.
