I cringe inwardly at the thought that he knows about what happened, and now he's probably here to give me notice that he's kicking me out.

“I’m sure what Emmett said made it sound way worse than it actually was,” I say, trying to downplay the situation. “But I can assure you that there’s no damage to the front door.”

“What?” Wyatt’s head tilts in confusion. “I’m talking about the fact that you got him to agree to be your date to a wedding.”

“Why is that so hard to believe?” I ask, my voice prickly with annoyance.

“Because of the fact that he swore off all weddings after his fiancée left him at the altar. Didn't he tell you?"

“No.”

We both turn to look at Emmett's house like there would be a sign hanging in the window or something that would have some explanation, but obviously, there isn't.

“Shit,” Wyatt mumbles under his breath. “Don’t tell him I told you, okay? This is the first time I’ve seen him somewhat excited for something, and I don't want my big mouth to be the reason to ruin it."

“Somewhat excited?” I ask, trying not to take offense.

“Trust me, that’s a good thing with Emmett. He’s never been one to project his emotions, but believe me, they are there. It's just most people aren’t willing to stick around long enough to let him drop his guard to let them in.”

Emmett and I have lived next door to one another for some time now, but in less than twenty-four hours, I’ve learned a lot about him that I wouldn’t have guessed. I’m looking forward to finding out what else I can about him.
