“You do love me!” I laugh and throw my arms around his neck and kiss him. “I love you too.”

Epilogue

DANA

The wedding of Charlie’s brother and his best friend, Kelsey, is the last job I had to do before finally getting a much-needed break. The business has been growing so much that in six months, I will be opening a second location. Thanks to so many people loving my desserts and bugging Buffy to give them the name of the bakery, she finally just told it to them to shut them up.

“Are you ready for tomorrow?” Charlie asks, handing me a fresh glass of champagne.

I lean into his side as he sits down next to me. The wedding reception is in full swing, but I’m so exhausted from working nonstop that even the idea of getting up and dancing seems like too much.

“A week in Mexico, laying out in the sun with you by my side?” I say, glancing up at him. “I’m more than ready.”

He smiles down at me. “I can’t wait to have you all to myself.”

“My own personal cabana boy?”

“You can call me whatever you want as long as I get to be the one that reapplies your sunscreen every few hours.” He chuckles.

“I think I can agree to those terms.”

He leans in and gives me a deep, lingering kiss that, even after a year, still holds the magic of our first kiss. The one that left me forgetting my name and wishing that this moment right now would actually come true.

I couldn’t have dreamed that when Charlie announced in my bakery to my high school nemesis that he was my fiancé, that one day he really would be mine, and I'd be his.

“I was going to do this later, but I can’t wait another minute without asking you.”

He turns to me, and I sit up. In his hand is the pear-shaped diamond ring he gave me a year ago to wear when we pretended that we were engaged.

“I’ve been carrying around this ring for months, trying to find the perfect time to ask you a certain question. But after today, seeing two of the most important people in my life—after you, of course—finally commit their love to one another, I knew that today had to be the day.”

“Oh my gosh,” I breathe out.

“Dana, one of the happiest days of my life was when I got to pretend that you said yes to my question of asking you to marry me. And since that day, each day has gotten better and better. I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me for real this time?"

“Yes, of course, I will.” I throw my arms around his neck and pull him close.

Today is the start of something so wonderful I couldn’t have even imagined the happiness I would feel with Charlie was no longer my fake fiancé but my real one.
