He raises his arms, allowing the soft fabric of his shirt to pull free. My hands move up and down, exploring the muscled ridges of his chest as he works the button of his jeans and pulls out his cock.

Jace grabs my ass and scoots me to the edge of the counter. It's the perfect height, allowing him to push right into my slick heat. I cry out in pleasure as Jace thrusts in and out of me. He fills me in a way I've never felt before, both in body and soul. Our connection is more than any I can put into words. It feels like we were both two missing pieces of a puzzle, waiting to be found and put back together. Could it be that the universe really did play a part in making sure our paths crossed at just the right time?

I lock my legs around Jace’s waist, wanting to feel him push as deep inside me as he can go.

“I’m close,” Jace grunts into the crook of my neck, his grip tightening around me.

The possessive way he holds me, making me feel safe like I’ve never felt before, sends me over the edge, my inner muscles pulsing as the pleasure of my release hits us both. Jace pumps one more time before he roots himself deep inside me, giving himself over to the moment.

It takes us each a few seconds to collect ourselves, but he doesn’t pull out. We cling to one another, not ready for this beautiful moment to end.

JACE

The following morning, I wake to find myself in a strange room, and it takes me a moment to realize that this is Cordelia's room. The pile of clothes I moved from the bed last night after we relocated from the kitchen to the bedroom is still lying on the chair in the corner.

I turn to look at Cordelia wrapped up in my arms. The soft morning light filtering in through the window is creating a golden halo around her. She looks like an angel.

My angel.

The quiet moment is short-lived and shattered when my phone begins to ring in my pocket on the floor. Cordelia begins to stir, her sleepy eyes opening and squinting against the sunlight.

I slip my arm out from under her head and grab my pants off the floor, picking up on the third ring.

“Good news, brother,” Declan says.

“What could possibly be so important this early in the morning?”

“They got him.”

I freeze for a moment, unsure I’ve heard him correctly. “Trevor?”

“Yep.” He laughs. “They need you to come back and work out the details before he’s officially charged.”

I glance back at Cordelia and find her smiling sweetly up at me from the bed. I should feel relief at this moment. My life, which was once turned upside down by losing what I thought was the most important thing in the world to me me, has quickly morphed into something that doesn’t even register. In the short time I've been on the island with Cordelia; she's become the one thing I care about the most. Nothing compares to what I feel for her. I’ve fallen in love.

“I can’t,” I say.

“What?” Declan asks, the jovial tone of his voice shifting to disbelief. “What do you mean you can’t come back?”

“I mean that I don’t care what happens to Trevor.”

Cordelia sits up, holding the top sheet to her bare chest. “What’s going on?”

“Who was that?” Declan asks.

“Dec, I’ve got to call you back," I tell him before hanging up the phone.

“What about Trevor?” Cordelia asks. “Did they find him?”

I nod and sit back down on the bed, tucking her into my side. “They want me to go back and deal with everything.”

She tenses in my arms but doesn’t say anything.

“I don’t want to go,” I continue.

“Oh,” she says quietly.
