“Is this what I think it is?” she asks.

“Depends.”

“On what?”

“On what your answer is?” I reach around her and grab the box.

Cammie turns to look at me as I drop to one knee in front of her. She claps one hand over her mouth like she can’t believe that I’m about to propose to her. I open the box.

“Cammie, I can’t give you a speech worthy of the characters in the stories that you write, but I can tell you how I feel, how I’ve always felt since the moment you walked into my life. I’m head over heels, crazy in love with you. From the moment we met, it felt like a part of me that was missing suddenly snapped into place, and I felt whole. You make me laugh all the time, you drive me crazy too, but I wouldn't trade away a single moment with you. You once said that you hoped that I could look at you and see the leading lady in my story. There was never a question about it. But I do have one question for you—will you do me the honor of making me your leading man?”

Slowly Cammie drops her hand and reveals the ear-to-ear smile on her face. Any fear that she might turn me down is snuffed out by the happiness filling my heart.

“That was a great speech,” she chuckles.

“You didn’t answer the question.”

She drops to her knees in front of me, and we are practically face to face.

“Does this answer your question?” she asks and presses her lips to mine.

We wrap our arms around each other and hold on tight to one another. It's going to be a crazy ride, but at least I will have Cammie by my side. And together we will get our happily ever after.
