Mila
Adrianna’s face turns pale when he sees Henry and me walking side by side into the office. But she forces a smile and greets Henry first, and then me. “Are you feeling better, Mila?”
I do not answer her question because I know she isn’t being sincere. Deep down, she must be cursing and wondering why I’m back.
“Adrianna, I need to speak to you in my office,” Henry says to her.
“S-sure, but can it wait? I’m in the middle of answering an email…”
“No, it can’t,” Henry says firmly.
The woman’s jaw falls, and she doesn’t say another word. She stands up silently. Eyes follow us, and whispers fill the office space as we head for Henry’s office.
Henry shuts the door as soon as all three of us are inside.
“Where did you put the camera?”
Adrianna pauses. “What camera?”
Henry smirks. “Don’t play dumb. I can find it myself, but if you want less trouble, you should tell me.”
“In the AC duct.”
“Since when?”
“Two years ago.”
“Unfucking believable. You’ve been spying on me for two years? What a twisted person you are! I trusted you, Adrianna.”
Adrianna starts crying and her voice trembles when she speaks again. “But Henry…Mr. Hudson, please. Don’t be mad. Hear me out. I did that because I was worried about you. Remember last time a subcontractor pointed a gun at you because you sued him for defective workmanship? I thought if I could monitor your office, I would call the police in case it happened again. I did it because I cared about you, Henry…Mr. Hudson.”
“Liar,” Henry says angrily. “What you did was clearly wrong, Adrianna, not to mention illegal. You didn’t even ask for my permission. You spied on me. And you used the result to blackmail Mila. You’ve simply gone too far.”
At the mention of my name, Adrianna becomes angry. She shoots a vengeful look at me and says between gritted teeth. “I’m only trying to help. This slut is going to ruin you. She’s too young for you, and she’s your best friend’s daughter. Nothing good will result in you being together. She’ll break your heart. She’s using you to get experience and then leave you!”
“Enough!” Henry roars with anger. I’m standing next to his chair and he wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me closer to him. “I will not allow you to insult my girlfriend.”
Adrianna gasps and so do I.Girlfriend? Oh my God. I have not seen it coming and I can stop my grin from spreading.
“You’re not serious, Henry,” Adrianna mutters. “It’s a mistake.”
Geez. What’s wrong with the woman? Is she nuts?
I’m going to speak, but Henry beats me to it. “I am. I love Mila, and I can do whatever I want in my office.”
I barely have the time to process the information when he stands up and kisses me on the lips.
While Adrianna is finally silent, Henry says. “By the way, you’re fired, and my lawyer will contact you soon. If I were you, I wouldn’t post the recording online to avoid heavier fines and jail time.”
“Oh no, Mr. Hudson, please, please don’t do it!”
“Now leave my office, or I’ll call security.”
Adrianna stands up and leaves with a tear-streaked face. For a moment, I feel sorry for her because she’s been loyal to Henry, but the fact that she’s been invading his privacy for so long sends creeps all over me. She should be locked up.
Henry hugs me tightly and then lets go of me. “Go back to draw your plans, sweetheart.”
“Yes, sir,” I say.
