He growls and kisses me. He then cuddles me and whispers into my ear. “Then we’d better start making them. You’ve already wasted ten years of your reproductive age.”

I giggle. “What about you? You’ve wasted more years than I have. What have you been waiting for?”

He pauses. “I’ve been waiting for you, Mila. Or someone like you. But I didn’t know until the moment I interviewed you in my office.”

We kiss again until Henry says, “Ready for the doggy style, Mila?”

“Yes, sir,” I say. “Fill me with your seed again.”

Epilogue

Henry

Eight months later

“This is beautiful,” Laura exclaims as she stands in front of the newly constructed house. “Exactly what I’ve imagined it to be!”

Mila smiles proudly as I squeeze her hand. After the initial design, she spent weeks choosing the right materials to achieve the desired effect. She combined concrete foundations with a timber-framed post and beam structure. The wooden roof decks, cedar siding, and multiple tall windows blend into a modern but cozy home.

Laura has been here at least once a week during the last few months’ construction, eager to see it finished. We took a month longer than expected because of her various requests over landscaping. The house has been inspected by a city official and issued a certificate of occupancy. We’re doing the final walk-through to ensure that everything meets her expectations.

After checking every nook and cranny thoroughly, Laura nods with satisfaction. “Everything is perfect,” she says, gazing at the view outside her living room window. “It feels like a dream. I wish Rob could see this.”

“I’m sure he would like it,” I say to the client.

Laura shakes my hand again, and then she hugs Mila. “Thank you. I knew you would do a good job, honey.”

“You’re welcome, Laura,” Mila says. “And thank you for trusting me and providing me the opportunity.”

“Oh, you deserve it. I hope you’ll get a promotion soon,” she says while glancing at me.

I clear my throat. “It’s already been done. Mila is my architect in residence now.”

While Laura congratulates Mila, Mila’s eyes widen. “Do you mean it?”

“I do,” I say.

She squeals and throws herself at me, kissing my cheek. “Thank you, boss!”

I chuckle. “Hold on a minute. I have one more surprise for you.”

I take out the velvet box I've been carrying for half a day and get down on one knee. “Mila, having you as an employee or a partner isn’t enough for me. Will you marry me? We can make an even better team as husband and wife.”

Mila covers her mouth with a hand as she stares at the diamond ring in the box, and her eyes are filled with tears within seconds. “Am I dreaming? This isn’t real.”

“You aren’t dreaming, honey. This is happening.” Laura pats Mila’s shoulder, and smiles at me approvingly. It isn’t a surprise to her. In fact, she brought it up a few weeks ago when we met at the site. She asked me when I was going to propose to Mila, and I said I hadn’t thought about it. I was lying and she saw through me.If I were you, I wouldn’t wait. The kind woman said to me. Soon afterward, I purchased a ring. I decided to try it even though I might not deserve the fantastic girl. Laura’s house is a memorable location because it’s Mila’s first creation.

I’m beginning to think I’m a pompous idiot when Mila finally takes a deep breath and nods. “Yes, Henry. Yes, I’ll marry you!”

It’s my turn to blink and make sure I’m not dreaming. Not until she hugs me again and kisses me on the lips do I realize it’s real. I kiss her back and slip the ring onto her finger.

“You know what?” Laura suggests. “If you don’t mind, I would love to host the wedding for you guys right here at my house.”

Mila and I both gasp. We look at each other and grin. “It’ll be perfect!” We say simultaneously.
