Good God. I haven’t had enough of her because my manhood hardens again. “Good,” I murmur into her ear. “Because I’m going to do this to you every night from now on, okay?”
Her breath hitches as she looks up, her green eyes widening. “Do you mean it this time?”
“Yes,” I say as I lean over to tease her earlobe between my teeth. And then, words fly out of my mouth, “I love you, Britt.”
Everything seems to turn still for a second. Shit. Did I really say that? I haven’t planned it. I don’t think I mean it, do I?
Brittney’s mouth opens for a second as she blinks, obviously feeling as incredulous as me. “What did you just say?”
Damn. Should I take it back? Or should I repeat it? “Never mind,” I say and close my eyes. My face must be very red because my blood has all rushed over it.
I feel Brittney’s velvety lips on mine before I hear her whisper, “Please, Andrew. I heard what you said and want to hear it again.”
I groan and open my eyes. Looking into her shiny eyes, I say in a low and husky voice, “I love you, Brittney Brooks.”
She shivers and tears flood her eyes as she speaks. “I love you too, Andrew!”
I grin like a silly teenager and clasp her in my arms, wanting to smother her with my affection. She doesn’t stir but lets me press her against me, wanting to fuse her body into mine.
I hold her like this quietly, listening to her breathing and feeling her heartbeat until she stirs.
“Do we have to go to the gym?” she asks.
“Yes, we do,” I say. “Let’s shower first.”
Chapter 20
Brittney
I fold the printouts of the proposal letter and put them into envelopes. I’ve already emailed them to the sponsors this morning, but Andrew says it’s better to also send them by snail mail. In each envelope, I include a self-addressed stamped envelope for potential donation checks. We’re contacting over fifty companies including local banks and grocery stores, famous fast-food restaurants and car dealerships, and hopefully, we’ll get at least ten responses.
“Excuse me, Miss, I would like to become a member,” a familiar voice interrupts my thoughts, and I smile before looking up.
“Dana!” I squeal as I go out of the counter to hug her. Although I’ve been expecting her since morning, I still can’t contain my excitement. Dana and I have been friends since we were kids, and we’ve never been separated for long.
We don’t let go of each other until Andrew comes out of his office. “Hey, vet nurse!” Andrew greets his sister.
“Hey, gym rat,” Dana chuckles as she hugs her brother.
I glance at Dana. Behind her large horn-rim eyeglasses, she has the same blue eyes as her brother, and her long blond hair is finer. She’s the prettiest girl I know and the kindest. We’re the same age, although she acts as if she’s a lot older than me. Besides her eye-glasses, she also likes to put her hair up into a bun. She never wears shorts and prefers dresses or skirts. She has a typical good-girl look since we were teenagers. Today, she looks even more mature in a white cropped cardigan over a navy knee-length dress.
“Have you had lunch?” Andrew asks her sister.
“No, but I had a big brunch right before I hit the road, and I’m not hungry,” she says.
“We could have some snacks at the mall,” I suggest. It’s our plan to spend the afternoon shopping.
“Sounds good to me,” Dana nods, smiling.
“Don’t eat too much, though,” Andrew reminds us. “We’re going to have dinner with Connor at six.”
Dana’s smile fades somewhat, and she shrugs. “Okay.”
I quickly wrap up what I’m doing and leave the gym with Dana.
“My truck is in the shop, so we have to use your car,” I say to her when we’re in the elevator.
“No problem,” she says. “How’re you feeling?”
