Aggie hadn’t traveled off the realm and followed Jace and Jax into our room.

“Wow,” she breathed, admiring the bedroom designated for the King of Hell. “Can you imagine all the orgies Papa Luci had in here?”

“Ew?” Mor frowned, looking over at the bed with concern.

“We had our first orgy this morning,” Justice interjected, making me feel very confused, considering I wasn’t part of said orgy.

Mor looked at me before stifling laughter. “Justice did an orgy all by himself.”

I closed my eyes and attempted to let a slow, calming breath out, but I huffed out the air. “That’s not….” I decided to let it go, considering Aggie was here for something more important than fighting over the word choice.

“There were two of him,” Mor added, almost apologetically.

It only confused me further, making me want to finish the rest of this conversation but still aware of Aggie’s gaze on our pack. “Later.”

Mor nodded, and it helped my mind to focus back on the prospect of using fractures inside spells. Aggie looked around; her eyebrows raised.

“We want you to put a fracture inside a rune,” Jax said, to steer the conversation back where it needed to be.

Aggie’s eyebrows lowered before moving toward each other. “Fractures don’t go in runes.”

“But they can.” Justice held Lilith’s spell book, opened the page concerning fractures, and pushed it toward Aggie’s face.

“I can’t read that,” Aggie said after only a passing glance.

“Well, I can,” Justice snipped, snapping the book shut before cradling it to his chest.

Jax waved his hand through the air, and Justice moved back several feet, dragging his toes in the carpet as he went. Jax moved into the space in front of Aggie, holding a fracture between his fingers. “I can read the texts. It can be done and greatly increases the effectiveness of the rune. Mix the fracture into the spell ink and pin it into the skin.”

Aggie looked skeptical while seeming to have a conversation in her mind. It wasn’t one of her powers that I was aware of, but that was what it looked like. She nodded before slouching her shoulder to allow her bag to fall to the floor. Her hands plunged into the dark well of an opening at the top before pulling out her supplies.

“You know it means these cards are useless.” Aggie threw a few pre-made rune cards onto the floor as if she needed someone to see the work we rendered obsolete.

“It just means you’ll be the one to come up with a way to make these easier to apply,” Jax added, which made Aggie laugh.

“You’ve been in power for, what, a week? And you are already putting me to work.” Aggie held a small pot of living ink in one hand and a bone-needle in the other. “Who is going to be my test dummy?”

Jax dropped the fragment into the pot, and the ink started to fight against the invader. It wrapped around the wisp of power, pulling it into the depths until it left no trace.

“Me,” Mor said enthusiastically.

“No.” The answer was unanimous.

“I’ll do it,” Jax said, grabbing at the bottom edge of his shirt to yank it free from his pants.

“Umm, no.” Mor had stood and held her hands on her hips. She looked at Jax like he was insane for even suggesting it.

Jax turned to face her directly, which meant I only saw the back of his head. I shifted to the side to at least watch Mor during the showdown. Justice appeared beside me, wearing a pair of pink thick rimmed plastic sunglasses. He leaned in.

“Want to playfangs, horns, tailto see which one of us gets inked while they fight?”

“Justice,” I whispered to not alert Mor to the attempted coup, “that isn’t poison ink. You can’t wield it.” I didn’t have to look over to feel him deflate.

“You don’t get to go into dangerous situations.” Mor waggled her finger at Jax. “I have the most power and various ways of healing.” She used her finger to count off her reasonings. “It will be safest for me to try it.”

Jax stepped forward, wrapping one arm around her back while using the other to sweep her off her feet.

“Hey!” Her arms wrapped around his neck.
