“We hold hands and jump into the center,” I said, holding my hand out for Jace.

He looked at me suspiciously before looking beyond me toward the rushing air. “You hurt me; you hurt yourself,” Jace added as a reminder before placing his hand in mine.

Mor grabbed ahold of his other hand. Jasper and Justice joined hands before Jasper held Mor’s free hand, and we all allowed our feet to carry us toward the pack call. The swift hot updraft on the edge of the ring center felt like the air coming up from a volcano. It smelled of fire and ash while it blew my hair around wildly. My hand squeezed as my hair torrented around, touching me unexpectedly on the face. Jace squeezed my hand back, and I found the gesture soothing.

“Guess they want me to walk through the fires of Hell to be part of the pack, don’t they?” Jace laughed, his voice getting caught in the wind.

“THIS IS MY FAVORITE PART,” Justice yelled before pulling us all into the center of the ring.

Our hands were ripped apart when we were all sucked in and upwards, floating erratically on the hot current as the ring sunk further and further below us. We were launched as close as possible to the empty bright light that shone down on us. This was as close as we could get to whatever higher power it was that moved the hand of fate. It was as if that power could whisper inside my soul when we were this close, whispering a question.

“Yes,” I choked out. The words instantly got caught in the swirling torrent of air, rising to solidify my choice. My soul immediately reacted as I felt the pack bond for Jace manifest within me. Now came the worst part.

I took a deep breath just before plummeting to the ground. Faintly I could hear Mor screaming and laughing in joy. She would like this crazy shit. The ground started to look larger and larger until the meadow was in plain view. I had to remember not to tense up.

A blink before smacking face-first into the hard ground, hot air ballooned underneath as if we had hit a sizeable invisible pillow. We sank slowly and gently into it, landing softly in the meadow.

“That was amazing,” Mor exclaimed. I could hear her giggling and running around.

I got to my feet slowly, dusting off my pants the best I could manage. I missed being able to simply banish it from my body.

“Not going to lie,” Jace said, coming over to me, “I thought I might die there for a moment in the end.”

I laughed lightly, remembering my first time. “Already regretting your decision?” I let the smile creep across my face as I watched Jasper running around with Mor in his arms as Justice chased them around.

“It’s good to be home,” Jace sighed with a content smile as he looked off at the others.

“Now it’s time to recharge the best we can before Lucifer figures it out and calls us to the throne room,” I sighed. I didn’t like the idea of going into a room with so many powerful elites without any power.

“Orgy?” Mor asked, coming over to join us, slightly out of breath, with a wide smile.

“You seem rather determined to get a proper one of those, don’t you, Darling,” Jace said, cupping her cheek with his hand.

“I am determined to get a proper orgy. It’s only my eternal goal at this point.”

“No dreams of power? Or children?” I asked.

“Baby demons running around the hunting cabin after we kill off all these stupid assholes trying to kill us?” she said, looking at me. I watched Jace’s hand slide down to her neck, his hand massaging her gently.

“They wouldn’t be demons, Princess,” Jasper said, joining the conversation. Justice followed behind eagerly. We hadn’t mentioned the particulars on the demon and demonling mate children yet.

“That’s how angels are born, Fox,” Justice said like it was the most exciting news.

“What?” Mor shouted. She didn’t sound happy about the revelation.

“Angels cannot create a child with another angel. The offspring they bear through mortal souls are always mortal. But angels are mighty and extremely difficult to kill, meaning they don’t need to repopulate their numbers often. Celestial balance decided a mortal soul turned celestial with a celestial soul is the exact equation needed to create an angel,” Jasper explained.

“How long do I keep the child before it has to go to the angel realm?” Mor asked.

“About twenty years or so. Once all the powers fully manifest, it is time for them to go and fulfill their eternity,” Jasper finished.

I held back my tongue, anxious to hear her reply.

“That’s not bad. Can we visit?” Mor’s voice was much more hopeful and seemingly open to the idea. I couldn’t help but wonder if I could have time for that before fate called me beyond the veil.

“I don’t see why that would be too hard to arrange,” I mused. I imagined our child, even as an angel, would still want to visit.

“Then yes, one day we can discuss children. But first, I think we need to get to the bottom of who Fachnan is, and we have a small window right now. Fachnan is hurt. I say I grab some blood. Jace, you too. It’s a faster way to power up than demon Hell sex. Jasper and Justice aren’t fully powered, and Jax is on healing only levels. But we need to get into the palace and figure out who is missing. Let’s down some potions, drain a small village, and make Lucifer call the sins to the throne room for our celebration.” Mor looked at us expectantly as she smiled and nodded her head.
