“I’m reworking their magic and adding in a few demon spells. When I'm done, this should block Jax and Jace’s soul echo bond. But they will need to have the pack bond first. I’m using the pack bond as a kind of allowed highway, leaving the only bond between them to block being the soul sensations. Otherwise, they would be blocked from their mate bond with you.” Justice pointed to various pages in the book as he explained. He continued to elaborate, but it quickly turned into spell ingredients and other things I couldn’t pronounce.

“Thank you, Justice,” I said when he finally took a break. “For even trying, let alone this,” I said excitedly, pointing back to the pieces of metal that were once wrapped around my neck. My fingertip brushed across the metal. I could faintly feel the power inside it, like a hint of seasoning on the back of my palette. A wave of goosebumps washed over me, and my nipples hardened painfully. A burst of radiating power went out from me, hunting and searching for something specific.

“Are you alright there, Fox?” Justice asked, tilting his head to one side to look at me closer.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just some weird power thing.” I rubbed my hands across my arms attempting to get my skin to calm down. My nipples strained against the silky material of my dress. There was a large opening in the back of the dress, and the front material was loose, so I had decided a bra wasn’t necessary.

“You called, Darling?” Jace said, appearing out of the shadows scaring the fuck out of me.

My hands flew up as if ready to strike before my brain had a moment to catch up. “Jace, you need to use the fucking door next time or risk going to my funeral. You nearly scared the soul out of me.”

He laughed easily, taking a seat on the sofa. I looked over to Justice to watch his eyes narrow.

“You may want to come down here before Justice pulls you down. No couches are allowed in Lucifer’s Favorite Pack.” I laughed as Jace looked over to Justice and scrambled down from the couch as Justice pretended to jump at him. Jace landed on top of me, knocking me over. His fast vampire reflexes acted on his hand as it came up to cradle my head a moment before it hit the floor.

Slowly, he lowered me the rest of the way down, and I looked up with a smile as Jace and Justice peered down at me from opposing sides. Their similarities and differences combine into a perfect measure of inverted balance. My mind flipped to the idea of what it would be like to have them both simultaneously. How well would their personalities match then? The slight ache that started up between my thighs informed me it was something I needed to find out.

“Did you want me to fuck you up against the stack of library books, or was there another reason you called for me, Darling?” Jace asked, and I was sure my monster had come out to play while I had lost myself to the fantasy.

“I wasn’t aware I called for you. But it happened when I touched that,” I said, reaching up above my head to point in the necklaces’ general direction.

Jace and Justice left my view, and I could hear Justice start another round of explanations. I rolled my eyes when Jace responded with a set of words I also couldn’t follow. They were excitedly geeking out together about spells, and I was left here to dry out. At least we were in the record hall, and I was getting a little break from the dragon.

I rolled on my side, gazing into the fireplace. My mind finally calmed as my inner sense of worry seemed to have managed to fuck off and give me some peace for a damn minute. The flames flickered and danced, weaving a story for me to follow. A sense of dread settled in my chest as the story unfolded. This would not end well.

“Hey, Darling,” Jace whispered as his body hugged up from behind me.

I turned my head towards him over my shoulder, giving him a simple, sad smile. “Hi,” I whispered.

“Is everything ok?”he asked inside my mind. His voice was full of concern, and his eyes filled with it.

I nodded my head quickly, giving a reassuring smile as I pulled on one of my happier shields to help my mood along. The melancholy feeling from the fire slowly sank away.

“We wanted to test something, Fox. If you feel up for it,” Justice said, lying between me and the fireplace.

I felt the sharp tips of Jace’s fangs as he slid his lips across my back, where the slit revealed my skin. He slowly kissed his way down my spine, causing shivers in his wake. My mind returned to a few moments ago when I considered having them both.

“What kind of test?” I breathed out, looking at Justice.

“See if the necklaces work temporarily. The mate bond with Jace should be blocked now. Can you feel it, Fox?”

I checked the bonds inside me, finding the one for Jace dimmed. It was the same sensation when he was out of the realm. I sucked in a sharp breath, realizing how this could work.

“We don’t want them wearing it all the time until the pack bond is formed. Then I can finalize the spell’s parameters to exclude that bond specifically. But for now, think of it as a mental condom. Keep it in your pocket or something for easy access; I don’t exactly have a ton of material to make extras.” Justice smiled; his gaze fell on me, reminding me of the look he gave me inside the body of a wolf. Right now, he was all bite.

I felt Jace’s hand slide under my dress through the slit in the back, curling his hand around to pinch and roll my hardened nipple. I watched Justice’s eyes follow Jace’s movements through the material of my dress. Heat pooled between my thighs; I was about to find out what it would be like to have them simultaneously.

“Emergency. Get back to the war room immediately; we need to get off the realm. There is movement at the spelled house.”Jax’s voice sounded urgently in our heads, and I felt Jace sigh deeply.

Guess I wouldn’t get to have a Justice and Jace sandwich today.

CHAPTER26

JACE

We traveled first to the war room and then straight for the hunting cabin marked with the number twenty-four. Jasper had been quite adamant that we include Ryan and his pack while we headed back to the human realm. Jax had never entirely given up watching that house. While Mor was preoccupied with raising the dragon hatchling, he traveled between the domains.

“Do we have a better plan this time?” Mor asked as we ran through the human realm, heading straight for the abandoned house.
