“You’ll understand when you’re older,” Jasper muttered as he leaned in to give me a slight kiss.

“Keep talking like that, and I’ll start calling you my grumpy old man,” I laughed.

“Grumpy old demon,” he responded with a smile, and I was relieved how much better things felt between us.

“Think there’s enough life in you to get you out on the dance floor for a bit?” I squeezed him with my thighs while giving him an innocent look.

“If I’m ever too old to do that, put me down, Princess,” Jasper said, scooping me up in his arms with ease before taking us to the dance floor. He set me down gently, and I needed to pull my dress down a little, but the leather refused to budge.

I think Justice picked this out because of how hard it would be to take off. Fuck it, everything was perfectly accessible, and I was mostly covered. I slid my hands up my body and into my hair. Allowing myself to move to the sound of the music. All around me, demons with crystal paint pulsed in different colors.

Jasper fit up snuggly behind me, his hands twisting around to hold on to my hips as I moved. I felt safe and secure within his arms, basking in the pleasure of knowing all the emotions rolling off him were pure lust. His hands worked with his body, moving and adjusting to make sure every pass of my ass ground up against him.

Before I even had enough time to complete one full song with Jasper, loud shouts from across the club had everyone coming to a halt. I couldn’t quite see over all the other demons, but at the sound of glass breaking, I took off at vampire speed to get a better view.

“Touch me again, and I will rip you apart piece by piece,” Jace snarled at a green demon at least double his size.

Jace was back? I quickly checked the bond, finding Jax was still out of the realm. Jace could be here looking for backup if something had gone wrong. I didn’t have time for this green son of a bitch. Sprinting as fast as I could right between the ogre-looking demon and my vampire, I faced Jace.

“Where’s Jax? Is everything ok?” It rushed out of me right before I felt as if my very soul was yanked out of my body and deposited twenty feet to the right. There was also a wall, which was likely why I didn’t travel further. I felt it as my spine shattered, shredding my spinal nerves as my limbs refused to at least attempt to let me stand. I landed with my head facing back to where the ogre and Jace still stood. A horrified silence stretched across the club as many other demons immediately recognized me.

“Now, you fucked up,” I heard Jace break the collective silence before screams broke out as all the lights went out. Occasional blips of painted faces barely illuminated a small space around them. The darkness was nearly tangible, filling up the hole in the room as it blocked out all the light. Even with my vampire sight, I couldn’t see past the shadows.

Footsteps rushed by my face as I lay in a heap at the base of the wall where I fell. I could feel my demon and vampire power rushing around to heal me, but this wound might take a while. More screams pierced through the dark silence; they were low and guttural. It almost sounded like someone was choking on blood. The darkness pulled back, and the crystals slowly started to illuminate the room once more.

I couldn’t see anything from where I lay on the floor, but soon I watched as feet quickly moved apart, creating a path for someone with shined black shoes and black slacks. His toes stopped right before my nose; then, I felt a hand turning my head upward.

Jace had blood on the collar of his shirt, but other than that, he looked at me with adoration in his eyes, not concern. “Darling, would you like some help getting into a better position?”

“My spine is broken. Not sure how long it takes to heal,”I sent out through my mind because I couldn’t seem to get my mouth to work correctly.

Jace scooped me up in his arms, positioning me so I could see the other demons who were all standing around, waiting for something. I hoped they weren’t waiting for me to say something.

Jace walked forward, and again everyone moved out of his way, making sure they were far enough not to bump into him, or me for that matter. He walked until we entered a small clearing, where I had stood before the ogre fucking threw me into the wall. The floor was splattered with blood as four limbs lay on the ground, no longer attached to their owner. The armless, legless ogre torso laid in a pool of blood as his body went to work, healing the open wounds before it could get a chance to start growing back the limbs.

“Next demon to put their finger on my mate gets a portal off realm before I start disassembling,” Jace boomed out to the crowd.

“Little overkill, don’t you think?”I wish I could laugh, but the slight tingling sensations I was starting to get in my fingers suggested that I would be healed soon enough.

“Absolutely not. No one gets to touch you but us,” Jace said with a playful smile.

The bouncers strode into view, picking up the torso and moving it away. Others hurried to collect the limbs and quickly clear away some blood, just enough so no one slipped and fell in the puddle.

“There you are.” I heard Jasper’s voice approaching us. “What the fuck happened?” He growled out, obviously getting a good look at me.

“I’ll be fine soon, I promise. The big ass ogre demon broke my spine, but Jace quartered him, so I think it’s handled for tonight.”

“You better tell that to Justice, too, before he sees you and blows a gasket,” Jasper suggested, and it wasn’t a bad idea.

“Hey Justice, how long do broken spines take for a vybred to heal?”

Moments later, the sound of pounding footsteps announced Justice got the memo. “Who,” I heard him growl out as he saw my body. I must look bad for all the boys to be reacting this much.

“No, really, I’m fine. Jace handled the revenge already. How long until I can move again, though?”Justice was usually pretty good at managing when I was hurt.

“Is he dead?” Justice growled out.

“Not yet,” Jace muttered.
