We went to a training room, the only place that could contain my power so it wouldn’t leak into anyone else. I’ve tried going into the room alone and allowing my war to reign fully, but it stayed firmly within me without someone to feed on.
We stood in a rough circle facing each other; they closed their eyes and hung their heads in unison. That was their signal. They were ready. Closing my eyes, I found the white-hot ball of rage within me and let it out into the world. It poured out of me in a rush, like a flood breaking free from a dam. The magic spread out, crashing into anything in its path.
Ryan stiffened first, his head snapping forward as his eyes turned pale blue rather than their normal vibrant blue. Blocks of ice formed around his fists as he looked at the other two.
Zeb zapped him with a bolt of electricity, and the smell of burnt flesh permeated the space. I breathed it in deeply, the monster in me relishing in the chaos created by my touch.
Springfield brought up a dirt wall behind Zeb before vines grew out of it trapping him. Ryan turned on Zeb, freezing his limbs within the vines.
“Got some issues you need off your chest, boys?” Zeb called out to the others, his eyes blown wide and completely black.
Releasing my war was always a form of entertainment. Minor grievances within the person were picked raw and split back open under my influence. Ryan and Springfield must be pissed at Zeb for something.
I drowned them out as they spat back and forth about leadership and case hunting. My internal war flowed into them, making their blood boil instead of mine. Every slight offense became worth at least a blow. They had always assured me it helped them function better as a pack to have all their feelings out in the open now and then.
The power began to trickle from me as my well dried up. Ryan was on top of Zeb as he lay on the ground. Ryan punched him in the face with his iced fists before Zeb pushed electricity through the ice causing Ryan to spasm. It would take them a bit to finish up whatever argument they were on.
“We’ve had worse,” Springfield said as he came jogging up. The fight going on wasn’t one Springfield had any feelings on.
“Thanks again,” I said, offering him a smile. I watched over his shoulder as Zeb stood over Ryan, blasting him with electricity. I would need to make sure they all got laid tonight with as much power they all just wasted.
“We needed a reason to take a few days off anyway; it isn’t a big deal,” Springfield said reassuringly.
“I foresee a lot of sex and drinks in my future, no downside there, big red,” Ryan said, laughing from the ground as Zeb finally ran out of power. Ryan’s skin showed some mild burns from Zeb’s power, but demon healing was already working on patching him back together.
“Drinks on me tonight.”
CHAPTER12
MORRIGAN
Buzzzzz
I looked around, confused as to what was making that noise. It almost sounded like a phone.Phone.Scrambling around, I found it abandoned on the nightstand. I didn’t have much reason to use or keep it around other than to keep tabs on my baby dragon. The app said I still had about a month to go, and he seemed to be growing normally. By the time I have the dragon, I won’t even need it to protect me anymore.
There was a message on the group chat from Jasper.
Jasper:I am going to DÆD tonight. I would like everyone to come.
I typed out a quick reply.
Morrigan:I will tell Justice. Jax and Jace are still off realm according to the bond.
Justice and I talked about going back to the hunting cabin tomorrow to check in with Jasper. A voice nagged at the back of my mind that Jasper has been different ever since the start of the hunting challenge. Justice and Jax have reassured me several times that this was normal behavior for him. Still, I wanted to at least check in on him and see if any extra set of eyes or a fresh mind could help with whatever it was that consumed his mind.
“DÆD with Jasper tonight?”I said to Justice mentally. There wasn’t any response since Justice didn’t have telepathic powers. Still, I could almost feel the excitement through the bond inside me. Jax and Jace’s bonds were quiet and empty, like a gaping wound that could only be filled when they were back with me. If they weren’t back soon, I would have to start realm hopping to figure out what was happening.
“Did Jasper ask to go to DÆD, or was that your idea, Fox?” Justice purred from my doorway before slinking inside and flopping down on my bed. His hand came up to cover his eyes. He played being entirely exhausted before peeking out at me and smiling.
“Do you seriously never look at your phone?” I snuggled up against his chest as he wrapped his arm around me. His finger drew invisible shapes on my shoulder.
“I don’t like phones,” he responded.
“Because you don’t like people being able to get ahold of you?” Since arriving in Hell, I admit, I have had barely any use for my phone. But really, I figured that was because I didn’t know many demons outside of my mates.
“Because if someone has something important enough to say to me, they will find me. I don’t care to make myself openly available to anyone outside the pack,” Justice responded. His head rose up as he used a more serious tone than I expected for such a small conversation. “That, and I don’t like most demons anyways,” he said with a smile that helped lighten the moment.
“Well, Jasper texted in the group chat saying that he was going to DÆD tonight and wanted everyone to come.”
