Sebastian and I both stood, and I thanked Az for his help. Kicking us out like this wasn’t unusual for Az, but I felt uneasy about whatever was happening with this book.
“These are the spells from the house,” I said, dropping a few copies of the most frequent spells we had found from the hunt onto the table. He didn’t even glance at them.
Sebastian and I ran back to the castle wordlessly, parting ways just before entering. My mind desperately appreciated the run up the mountain and the view of the vampire kingdom. Hell wasn’t home yet, and maybe it never would be home like this was. I slipped into the castle without any other vampires spotting me; there was still something weird about coming face to face with some of them, now that I was banished.
Opening the door to the room, the one I had kept Mor in, I was surprised to find it empty. Double-checking the cove to be sure; revealed they were not where I told Mor to take them. Closing my eyes, I focused on all the vampire bonds running through me. All the progeny I have made over the centuries. Well, I didn’t need them anymore. I severed the connections between all the other vampires and me, save for Mor. They were all free from the sire bond, no longer cursed to follow me into the void should I die. Now I could focus better.
At first, a gentle tug, pulling on the bond between us. It should let her know that she needed to return to my side immediately.
“There are still a few hours left until sunrise. The demons were tired, so I put them in your room,”her voice filled my mind.
“And where are you, Darling?”
“The throne room.”
What the fuck was she doing there? I took off out of the room, taking mere seconds for me to get to the throne room’s giant double doors. I hadn’t passed a single guard or soldier along the way. Security, in general, seemed lax around the castle. I guess Sebastian wasn’t worried about things now that he brokered the agreement with Ailill.
I pushed the double doors open wide as I loudly announced my presence.
Mor was sitting up on my father’s throne, her fingers thrumming against the arms of the chair. Speeding up the steps, I stopped directly in front of her. My hand resting high above her head on the top of the throne. She looked up at me with almost innocent eyes, but her smirk betrayed the wicked thoughts that ran through her mind.
“The demons went to sleep while you’re not in Hell and left you wandering alone?”
“You all do realize mate doesn’t mean enslaved person, right? I am free to do whatever the fuck I want when I want. But yes, there were words of concern, and I’m sure none of them are sleeping, but they are giving me some space,” she huffed.
“Comes with the power, I’m afraid, Darling.” My hand slid down the throne until my fingertips skated across her shoulder, then her arm. I sank to my knees in front of her. “Powerful beings are always surrounded by those most loyal to them. Those willing to fight to the death to protect them. Your demons are exactly that.”
She laced her fingers between mine, palm to palm, resting on the throne I thought I would one day sit in. Instead, I got her. Once we entirely set the bond, that is. I will need Jax to loosen up this fucking spell for that to happen. My hand unconsciously came up to rub my chest where I was tied to the grumpy ass demon. Any other demon would have been far more pleasant to be connected to.
“I guess coming back here just made me realize how much more freedom I had here,” she said with sadness. But I’ve seen her in Hell; she practically glows. She doesn’t belong here amongst the vampires, but she does belong on a throne.
I couldn’t help a dark laugh. “More freedom as a prisoner, Darling?”
She laughed lightly along with me, “it’s not quite like that. They worry about me because I’m so important to them. Sometimes, it feels suffocating.” Her eyes begged me to understand. The way she looked at me was the same way she looked at the rest of them. To her, I was already her mate. Even without the bond officially set. And somehow, I gave her a sort of freedom that the demons did not.
“Come back with me to your room. I think I know just what will cheer you up.”
“What, you don’t want to sit in it before we go?” she laughed, and I was confused by what she meant. Her eyes gestured to the throne before giving me a wicked smile. “Have you ever sat in it before?”
“Once, when I was young. Even then, I knew better. Father caught me and had me whipped for my disrespect.”
She frowned, and I felt the need to explain further.
“It wasn’t bad. I healed up within half an hour, and it helped give me the drive to earn my seat on the throne one day. That lesson helped to shape me into the vampire I am today.” I stood, tugging lightly on her hand for her to stand.
“Before we go,” she started, her hand fit around the back of my neck. She pulled me to her, our joined hands releasing. I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her into me as her lips crashed against mine. Stubbornly, my lips refused to move. Guess this counted as too sexual for Jax.
I sighed and pulled back from her, “sorry, Darling; it seems your boy took kissing off the table.”
Her slight frustrated frown made me smile; knowing she wanted me back was comforting. Then I watched as her frown turned into a sly grin. She grabbed me and spun before pushing me down onto the throne. One high heel coming up to step between my spread thighs. My intricate knots stared back at me, mocking me for everything I should be doing with her.
“How does that feel?” She smiled, her voice full of power.
“Sitting on the throne or your foot against my cock, Darling?” I pressed the bulge of my hard cock against her shoe. At least the bond wouldn’t stop me from getting my dick stepped on, Jax was a demented fucker like that.
“Both,” she said with that perfect shade of crazy smile that I loved.
“This throne doesn’t feel right anymore. You touching my cock, however, is always welcome, my dear.”
