“I think we need to figure out what spell he was trying to do,” Justice said, having a messy handful of the drawings bundled up in his arms.

“So, no more hunting?” Mor asked, clearly surprised.

“Princess, I think figuring out who killed you is more important than any game. We have many points already; we have time to waste,” I said casually.

Mor raised an eyebrow as she looked at me.

“And it will make me happy to burn the skin from the body of whoever is behind killing you,” I added.

She smiled, and it made my heart feel entirely complete. I have spent a great deal of my time alive chasing after pleasure. Nothing was ever enough because something bigger or better or weirder was left to try. She was more than enough; she was my everything.

“Hey guys, you might want to wait until you hear what we have to say,” Jace said, causing the entire room to go silent.

“I still had Mor’s journal in the backpack from the last case,” Jax started; he had our full attention. “Mor had some of the writing from the spell book she copied into her journal. Jace recognized the spells in both the journal and the house. They’re written in Enochian.”

“What’s that?” Mor asked, her little brow furrowed in confusion.

“It’s the language of the angels, Darling.”

There was silence around the table as we all digested the information.

“So, an angel wanted to kill Mor?” I asked, the thought sliding into place.

“I would say probably not. The spells at the house, at least, were demon cast; no mistaking that. Plus, what use does an angel have with a dead human?” Jace asked like he thought that was absurd.

“I don’t know what an angel would want with a dead human; that’s why I asked. They’re all happy and peaceful, transitioning souls into new lives.” I bit back.

“You haven’t met a lot of angels, have you?” Jace asked with a smile that felt somewhat mocking.

“I’ve met more than I could count recovering souls. I bet you don’t even know how angels are made.” He better think twice before challenging me, an immortal, eternal demon tasked with the mere knowledge of the inner workings of existence.

“You haven’t met a lot of fallen angels, I take it then,” Jace said, just as cocky as he had the first time.

I blinked in confusion. “No one has seen a fallen angel in the past millennium. Not a real one anyway, other than Lucifer.”

“I saw a fallen angel,” Mor said with excitement.

Blinking rapidly, I turned my head to her. She was bouncing in her chair, just a little bit, a giant grin on her bloody face.

“In the vampire realm.” She leaned towards the middle of the table like she was about to whisper a secret. I leaned in and watched Jax and Justice do the same. “He was stripping,”she said into our minds at average volume, making us all jump.

“I highly doubt,” I started, but Jace jumped in.

“Fallen angels are common in the vampire realm. They mostly keep quiet, but my brother is best friends with one.”

“What would a fallen angel want with a dead human?” Maybe that idea wasn’t as stupid as I thought.

“What about Lucifer?” Mor said, and silence fell over us again, and a prickling feeling started at the back of my neck.

“Not here,”Jax’s voice sounded in my head, but from the look on Mor’s face, she received it too.

“I still think we need to figure out what the spell was for before getting lost in conspiracy theories,” Justice said, breaking the stagnant air that had settled all around us.

“We can always bring the spell book to the vampire realm and see if we can get an angel to translate it for us,” Jace added.

“Can we even go back to mid-realm with Jace? Or will someone try to kill him again?” Mor asked, and we all turned towards Jax.

“I can arrange a visit, but it might take a few days. Why don’t we stay here at the palace for a bit while I work on the realm negotiations?” Jax got out his phone and started texting. I had no idea who he was contacting since it couldn’t be anyone outside the realm.
