“If you knew where I was, why didn’t you just come at me then?” I hope he could tell how fucking annoyed I was. “Give me my vision back,” I growled out as I tried to expel him from my mind.

We mentally struggled back and forth. I didn’t get my vision back, instead, to my horror, I felt my arms and legs moving. Blindly I moved forward, trying to no avail to stop each step that Justice commanded. Yesterday had taken a large chunk of power, that I hadn’t fully charged yet. Hiding in the forest used too much energy for me to give him a strong blast of anything.

I felt the soft edge of the bed as it hit my thighs, my body crawling up onto it before laying down on my back. Even without my vision, I had a clear picture of what was happening here.

A hand touched my leg, and I wanted to jump at the sensation, but my limbs refused. Strong hands grasped my ankle as something smooth was tightened around the skin there.

“Jasper?”

“You said I couldn’t help you; none of your rules are broken,” Jasper said with a low chuckle. At least he seemed to be in a better mood. He finished with my legs and then bound my arms above the bed. “She’s all yours, Justice.”

The incredibly full-to-bursting feeling in my skin washed away as I first got control over my body before my vision was finally returned. Jasper was sitting at the end of the bed, smiling.

“I think you entirely missed the point,” I huffed. Now that Justice was out of my mind, I closed the doorway to them, sealing up my mental shield. At least that didn’t require any additional power to maintain. I was running uncomfortably low already, and the regular recharge from Hell wasn’t cutting it.

“No, my fox, unfortunately, you missed the point,” Justice said as he appeared in the doorway. His hair was messy, and his lean muscular frame was on display. His pants were like the ones I burned off him in his room the first time we had sex, his favorite ones.

“What point did I miss?”

Justice sauntered forward, pulling a knife from one of his holsters. My heart kicked it up a notch; maybe I would get something out of this. At the very least, I felt the trickle of power in me opening slightly.

Using the tip of the knife, he pushed the blade into his chest, right where his heart should be. The hard thin steel slid slowly into his skin like he was made of panna cotta. He stopped once the blade was halfway into his skin, smiling wickedly at me before pulling the knife free. The end came out coated in blood. He brought the blood-coated metal to my lips, “have your lick, Fox.”

Unafraid, I stuck my tongue out, fitting the knife in the middle as I curled my tongue and slid it back into my mouth. I captured his blood while the blade’s edges added some of my blood into the mix. My body took on a light hum as his poison rushed through me. The blood only provided a drop of power; I needed more.

“Demon battles are not won head-to-head. Going against a spirit alone and without your pack is a good way to get someone hurt,” Jasper said, still sitting on the bed, just observing.

“This wasn’t about me showing off how badass I am. It’s about showing you that me getting hurt isn’t a big deal. That being distracted by your worry while hunting is just as dangerous. Justice, you were supposed to hunt me down so we could fight in the woods. This was about making Jasper desensitized to my broken bones. Not to teach me a lesson I already knew.” Again, why couldn’t they listen to what I was trying to say?

“Yes, my fox. This is me hunting you like a true demon. Your weakness, of course, was us. After that, it was setting a trap for my little fox to walk right into, before rendering you docile. All that power you burned through running and hiding deprived you of exactly what you needed to fight back once caught. I am a wolf, my fox.”

Justice moved to straddle me, the knife still in his hands.

“Now, if I were one of the bad guys, you would be entirely at my mercy. Real villains don’t follow the rules; they make sure they win.” Justice’s eyes were entirely black as he looked down at me. The asshole thought he already won.

I burnt through my restraints and flipped us.

Justice’s hands moved swiftly, one to the dip of my back, pressing me into him. The other hand held a knife up to my throat. The bite of the blade against my skin zipped through me. My hands were placed on his chest, pushing away as far as they would go. I was starting to lose my grip on my control; the monster beneath my skin was starved for more power.

I never thought my time spent in the vampire prison, locked out of my power, would come in handy, but now I knew what used power and what did not. Vampire strength, speed, and healing didn’t require a drop. Demons, however, used power for all those things.

I pushed off his chest suddenly, breaking free of his hold as I flew backward. I came around behind Jasper, digging my fangs into his neck roughly. The taste of his blood filled my mouth as I pulled in greedy mouths full. Feeling his muscles shift under my grip, I knew it was time to move. I lunged toward Justice next, sinking my fangs into the soft skin of his neck. I needed to level the playing field as much as I could.

I pushed his back into the mattress, pulling deeply on his blood while grinding against his erection. He was rock hard; distracting him should give me a few more minutes with his blood.

I felt a hand on the back of my head pulling me in closer.

“Sorry, Fox,” Justice whispered, his other hand swiftly grabbing my chin.

My mouth was yanked violently away from his neck until I heard a loud crack in my skull before everything faded to black.

CHAPTER5

JASPER

Instantly, my blood turned to fire as Justice snapped Mor’s neck in front of me. Today had been an absolute shit day. As soon as my little spoiled warrior princess took off into the woods, Justice started laying his trap. His mind followed her journey, zipping in and out of animals faster than she could sense him.

We always knew where she was, and it was only a matter of time before she would come out of hiding. She put up a good fight, and honestly, I hadn’t expected her final burst of strength. She did have more power than any of us anticipated, but she was still in transition.
