Jasper still hadn’t gotten the memo.

“How are you doing, hot stuff?” I came up from behind him, sliding my palms across his chest as he sat in his chair at the table for breakfast. His horn was already healed up, but he still wore a frown. My usually lovable, cuddly Jasper seemed to be missing.

“I didn’t realize how stressful having you on the field with us would be,” he whispered, taking one of my hands into his. A rush of butterflies floated happily within my heart as he brought my hand to his lips to give me a light kiss.

“I’m fine, Jasper. I think you were the one that was hurt the most out of all of us. We’re going to screw up. Things won’t always turn out according to plan, and that’s ok.” My arms tightened around him as I hugged myself to his back. I moved my hand to run across the horn he had broken yesterday, feeling the ridges. When I reached the end, I gave him a sharp tug, hoping it made him think of the feast. The boys have lived in a constant state of worrying about me. I leaned in with a smile as I whispered, “maybe we should go and fight each other. Real fight this time. Then maybe you won’t get so worried about me while we’re hunting.”

Jasper pulled back sharply, tilting his head to look at me, he looked at me like I was crazy.

“How in the hell do you think that would make me feel better, Princess? You may think you’re powerful now, but your power is nothing compared to a demon like me. I would spend the whole fight worried that I would seriously hurt you.” His eyes begged me to understand I wasn’t as powerful as I thought.

What he didn’t understand is I already knew that. I was trying to make a different point.

“Justice?”

Silently, Justice slinked up behind me, making me the filling of a bizarre sandwich. Jasper faced the wrong way for this to work, like when you’re making grilled cheese and accidentally put the butter side the wrong way.

“Yes, my fox.”

“Jasper is upset because he doesn’t like to see me hurt. I tried to see if he would fight me so he could get more familiar with the idea of my bones being broken. He’s too scared to hurt me, but I know you won’t let me down.”

I felt Jasper tense beneath my touch. Now he got the point I was trying to make.

“Absolutely not,” Jasper said while Justice replied, “I would love to.”

Jasper pulled free from my hold, turning so he could glare at Justice.

“No. Absolutely not. I will not sit there and watch Justice do to you what I know he has done to other demons.”

“Jasper,” I said as I rubbed my hands up and down his arms. He was so fucking tense. “Justice isn’t going to kill me, and you know that. You will never chill out during a hunt if you can’t handle seeing me hurt under controlled circumstances. Which means you will be distracted, and it could impede the pack.”

A low continuous growl emanated from his chest.

“I won’t even take her into the dungeon, Jasper. Just a little bit of pain. Then you can help me make it all better after,” Justice said. I could feel his hard cock behind me, pressing into my back. He got off on this in the worst way.

“Should we invite Jace and Jax to the show?” I asked. I hadn’t seen either of them this morning.

“They went back to the mortal realm to record the spells used on that house,” Jasper said, the low growl still humming from his chest.

“See, you all are fine with the newest vampire going on hunts.” I pouted, but neither Jasper nor Justice would be able to see that from where they stood.

“He’s a 500-year-old vampire prince. He’s quite capable of handling himself, Princess.” The growl in Jasper’s chest increased like he was annoyed that I couldn’t see his point.

“And I am capable of so much more than you give me credit for. Justice and I are going to play a little game of hunt. Since he’s a powerful demon like you, he will eventually catch me. When he does, we will fight, and I will get hurt. Hopefully, I can get a few licks in as well.”

Justice purred into my ear, “if we are fighting with licks, Fox, you can take as many as you want.”

It made me laugh against Jasper, which he did not appreciate. “Winner gets all the licks they want. Jasper, if you watch without coming to my aid, you can have as many licks as well.”

His heavy breathing told me either Jasper was turned on or pissed off. Come on, son of Lust, get with the reward system.

“Fine,” he growled out.

I hugged him tightly and whispered, “thank you.” I gave him a quick kiss on his cheek before separating from my sandwich and heading to change. Pretty sure I needed to make quite a spectacle out of this.

“You are not fighting him in that,” Jasper grumbled as I emerged from the bedroom in my fighting attire.
