She fully faces me. "A date?"

"Dinner, babe." I avoid giving whatever I'm asking the title, and I wait for her answer.

"Just dinner?" She nibbles her bottom lip.

"Just dinner," I confirm.

"Sure," she nods. "I'd like to have dinner with you, Jaxson."

Sitting my wrap and water down beside Millie, I stride toward Sutton. "Phone," I hold out my hand, and she retrieves it from her back pocket. I program my number into her contacts, text myself, then hand it back to her. By the look in her eyes, I could kiss her, and she would let me, but I hold back. She's worth the wait.

"I'll be in touch."

"Okay." Her words are breathy, and we finally part ways.

Sitting beside Millie, I join her and eat my small meal. "She's one of the good ones, Jaxson. Don't go chasing after her unless you can give her what she deserves."

"What is that?" I let her say what is on her mind.

"Commitment, dear. Don't let her fall in love unless you can give yourself completely." I hear the past hurt in her voice, but I take her words to heart.

Deep down, I know she's right.

SUTTON

The days following the charity event, I can't keep the smile off my face. My thoughts keep drifting back to Jaxson and about how intense our connection had been. The spark between us was palpable. And to top it all off, he is the President of the local MC. It's not like I haven't heard of Hades Outlaw. Anyone who lives in a one-hundred-mile radius knows who they are. I've heard rumors about how dangerous the MC is, but I have also heard about how they give back and protect the community. And even though I know how dangerous a man like Jaxson can be, I wasn't at all afraid of him. In fact, I felt the complete opposite. Just being in his mere presence made me feel safe.

Everything about Jaxson exudes authority. Jaxson Carter is at least 6 feet 3 inches tall, has dark brown hair, piercing gray eyes, and a beard that does funny things to my tummy. He also has tattoos that cover both arms. Jaxson is the complete opposite of the kind of man I am usually attracted to. My asshole ex had a wardrobe that consisted of polos and khakis. He also put more product in his hair than any man should. Jaxson has the kind of hair that looks like he's just rolled out of bed or that he's always running his hands through it. It's messy, but on aman like Jaxson, it's sexy as all get out. The best part of the day though, was when Jaxson put Noah in his place. The breaking of his nose was a bonus. And him calling me his woman. I liked it more than I should.

"I bet I know what has you walking around here today with that goofy smile on your face," Ada shares as she walks up behind me at the nurses' station where I am sitting in front of the computer.

"I don't have a goofy smile," I protest.

"Child." Ada places her hand on her hip and gives me a look. "You can't bullshit a bullshitter."

I laugh.

"Your good mood wouldn't have anything to do with that tall drink of water you were hanging out with at the charity event, would it?"

"Wait. How do you know about that?"

"I heard from Lenore, who heard from Helen, who heard from Evelyn, who said she saw you looking mighty cozy with Jaxson Carter."

I groan inwardly. Evelyn is an older nurse who works at the clinic with my dad. She's a busybody who knows everything that goes on in this town.

"How do you know Jaxson?" I ask.

"Jaxson has donated and been a part of the Fight Against Cancer charity event for years." Ada waves her hand at me. "But that's beside the point. What I want to know is how you know him."

I blush, thinking about how Jaxson and I met. "I don't really. We sort of ran into each other yesterday. Literally." I shrug. "After that, we hung out for a short time. He asked if he could take me out sometime."

"Evelyn also mentioned Jaxson looked completely smitten by you."

I giggle. "Ada, I don't think we can use the word smitten when describing Jaxson Carter."

"No, I suppose not," she chuckles.
