I sigh. My dad is giving me a knowing look, and my mother is beaming from ear to ear—both anticipating my response.

"Yes, we. Vayda and Sydney will be staying at my house."

My dad crosses his arms over his broad chest. "Does this mean you finally got your head out of your ass, Son?"

"Why the hell does everyone keep saying that?" I throw myself against the back of the chair and look up at the sky.

"Oh, sweetheart," my mom gushes. "I have been praying for this day to come. I just knew you two were made for each other."

"What?"

My mother rolls her eyes and swats her hand at me. "Oh, please. We all knew this day was coming. I still remember the way you use to look at that girl when you were younger."

Taking pity on me, my dad changes the subject. "Is there anything you need your mom and me to do? You know we'll help anyway we can."

"Thanks, dad. Right now, I'm not sure what we need."

"Have you talked to the guys?"

"Not yet. I was going to do that after talking to you two."

After a quick lunch with my parents, I drive back to Mr. Wilder's house. The vehicle Georgia arrived in is now gone. Pulling my phone from my pocket, I decide to give Riggs a call.

"Brother."

"Hey, man. The brothers there with ya?"

"Yeah. We're hangin' here at the clubhouse. Let me put you on speaker." There is a pause. "Alright, man. You have our attention."

"I need your help with something."

"You name it."

"You all know Vayda was called home to tend to a family emergency."

"Yeah? Is she good? Her dad okay?"

"No, no. It's nothing like that. Her dad is fine. The thing is Damien's girlfriend he had before he died showed up out of the blue."

"Okay," Riggs draws. "Where's the problem with that?"

I let out a deep breath. "She showed up with a kid. The little girl, Sydney, is eleven. She's Damien's."

"Jesus fuckin' Christ," Riggs hisses. I can hear the shocked voices of my brothers in the background.

"What's the plan?"

"Vayda and I are bringing Sydney home with us. Think you all can get some shit squared away at my house before we get back?"

Kiwi jumps in on the conversation. "We got you, brother. What do you need?"

I sigh. "Fuck. I need everything—furniture for the living room. I'm going to need someone to stock the fridge and cabinets. I don't have shit to eat in the house, aside from the few things Josie has dropped off since Vayda has been at the house. I don't even know what the kid likes to eat. Maybe I'll have Vayda find out, and I'll text you a list."

"No worries, Wick. I got you covered!" This is coming from Nova.

Piper's ecstatic voice breaks out over the phone. "Oh, my God! Can I decorate her bedroom? Please. It will be so much fun."

I chuckle. "Sure, sweetheart. But nothin' too girly. From the looks of Sydney, she's not into any frilly shit. And no pink."
