Stepping closer, Sam plants a soft kiss on my lips. "Let the other women know I'm here." He kisses my forehead. "Get some rest. I'm not going anywhere."
A yawn escapes me. "I can do that."
Sam lowers himself to the sofa and pulls his boots off his feet. I look over my shoulder before entering the hallway. "Goodnight, Sam."
"Goodnight, Firefly."
Chapter nine
Sam
Stretching the kinks out of my sore back, I stand from the sofa, grab my pistol from the coffee table, reach behind me and slide it into the waistband of my jeans. Last night when Sofia called saying someone was watching the house I didn't waste any time jumping on my bike and hauling ass to her house when I heard the fear in her voice. The sound of a sharp intake of breath steals my attention. I turn to see Sofia standing just inside the living room entrance holding two coffee mugs. I watch as she rakes her eyes up and down my bare torso. "Mornin', baby."
Her eyes dart up to mine as a pretty blush stains her cheeks. "Good morning," she squeaks. "I, ah, made you some coffee," she stammers holding up the cup.
Plucking my shirt up off the floor, I stride up to Sofia, take the offered coffee and kiss the corner of her mouth. "Thanks, baby. I'll be right back. I'm going hit the head."
"Okay. I put a spare toothbrush on the sink for you."
I wink. "Thanks."
Once I've finished my business, I find Sofia in the kitchen frying bacon and scrambling some eggs. "You hungry?"
"Yeah. I could eat."
Loading our plates, she piles mine with triple the amount she fixes herself then joins me at the table where we eat in silence. I see her emotions playing out on her face and know she's thinking about last night. "Look at me, baby," I demand. She stops eating and gives me her full attention. "It's going to be okay. I won't let anything happen to you."
"It's not just me I'm worried about. I want the women staying here to feel safe too. They come here to escape danger, Sam."
"The club won't let anything happen to them either, Sofia. You know that, don't you?"
She nods. "I know. I can't help but worry."
A knock on the door interrupts our conversation. Standing from the table, I make my way to the front door. Looking through the blinds, I notice Grey standing on the porch. Opening the door, I let him in. "Hey, man. Prez sent me. He wants you at the clubhouse. I'll stay here with the girls."
Nodding, I walk over and grab my cut laying on the back of the sofa before making my way to Sofia who is still sitting at the kitchen table. "I'll be back later, baby," I assure her. "Now give me your mouth." My demand earns me a smile as she stands, raises on her tiptoes and gives me what I asked for.
The first thing I noticed when I pull up to the clubhouse is Demetri's black SUV. Logan's dad has been out of the country for a couple of weeks, so I'm curious as to why he is here. Demetri and his other son Nikolai share a home here in Polson. The two moved to Montana a few years ago after reconnecting with Logan. Nikolai went into business with The Kings while Demetri shuffles back and forth between Polson and Russia as he runs his empire. The family doesn't air too much of Demetri's business, but from what I have gathered since living here and hanging around The Kings, the Volkov's are Mafia.
When I enter the clubhouse, Logan happens to be the only person I see. He's sitting at the bar talking on his phone when he spots me. Ending his conversation, he jerks his chin. "Come on. The brothers are waitin' on us." I follow behind him as we make our way to the room the club holds church. Entering the room, I'm met by the whole club, including Demetri and Nikolai. It's not unusual for Logan's dad and brother to be involved with club business, so I don't give their presence in church another thought. Once Logan and I have taken our seat, Jake slams the gavel. I'm the first person he addresses.
"How's Sofia doin' this mornin'?"
"She's still a bit shaken up. Whoever that motherfucker was last night has my girl scared out of her mind."
"You all know it goes without sayin' I want Sofia, her house and the women stayin' there to have around the clock protection until we get a handle on who we are dealin' with," Jake orders.
Without hesitation, I speak up. "I want to be the one watchin' my girl."
Leaning back in his chair with his arms crossed over his chest, Jake ponders my request while keeping his steel gaze on mine. I will admit he's pretty damn intimidating right now, but Sofia is mine; therefore I'm not backing down from what I want. Finally, after several beats, Jake opens his mouth. "You claimin' her, son?" The guys know I have voiced my interest in Sofia, but I know at this moment Jake asking me this question is making what Sofia and I have official.
"Yes, sir. Sofia is mine." The second the words leave my mouth there is a chorus of "hell, yeah's" filling the room.
Jake slams the gavel once again bringing the attention of his men back to him. "Sam will stay on Sofia. That means, for now, your only job is protecting her. When she's at work, your ass is outside waitin' on her until she's done. She needs to go anywhere; it's on the back of your bike. Also, you will continue to stay at New Hope House. If at any time you encounter a threat, you call one of the brothers for backup. Are we clear?" he asks me.
"Yes, sir. We're clear."
Next, Jake turns his attention to Reid. "I want you out at Sofia's place checking on the security equipment. Go ahead with the motion sensors too. I don't like how that son of a bitch was able to get as close as he did. I also want you to sync the security feed at her place to all our phones. If something else like last night happens again, I want all the brothers informed."
