“What is it, Isa?” Evan prompted after a short silence.
“I think I like it rough,” I replied, hiding my face in my hands in embarrassment. This was not a conversation you typically had over eggs.
Nate reached across the table to pry my hands away from my face. His heated eyes captured mine and left my mouth feeling dry. “So do I, Little Bell. That isn’t something to be embarrassed about.”
“Is there anything else?” Dom asked.
I shook my head. “Nothing that I can think of,” I answered honestly.
“Well, if you think of anything, let us know,” Evan said.
“Do you have any triggers or… desires?”
Evan winked at me. “No triggers to speak of, and our only desire is you, any and every way you’ll have us.”
“I can work with that,” I squeaked as I shifted in my chair. These men set my body on fire with their words alone. Hopefully, that faded with time, or I’d be in a constant state of arousal.
We were cleaning up breakfast when Daniel called with an update.
"Hi, Daniel. You're on speaker phone," I said as I answered the call and placed my phone on the table.
"I have good news, Isa. They've issued a warrant for your father's arrest for attempted murder and arson."
"Attempted murder?" I asked. I had expected assault charges, maybe, but not attempted murder.
"Yep. Thanks to your surveillance footage, it was an easy decision for the prosecutor. And thanks to Morris flaunting his pyrotechnics for the camera, there was no question about who set the fire. Speaking of that, I also spoke to the Fire Marshal. The fire is out. It burned through two other buildings and into a third before they did, but it is out. He expects it will be several days before it is safe for you to go inside."
My heart broke at the loss of my home. While I meant what I said last night, I still had an emotional attachment to the place and a loss that I had yet to mourn. "I understand," I replied. Evan reached over and tugged me out of my chair and into his lap.
"We'll rebuild," he murmured.
I nodded. That was an option, but I wasn't sure what I wanted to rebuild it into, or if I even wanted to. It may be time to move on to something different.
"Also, the new detective assigned to your case would like to meet with you soon," Daniel said, breaking me from my thoughts.
"What happened with Detective Greene?" Nate asked.
"He's been suspended pending an investigation from Internal Affairs. I've been assured he won't be a problem anymore."
"What about the conservatorship?" I asked. "Is there any way to expedite the removal?" Regardless of what I decided to do with the bookstore, I'd need money to make it happen.
"In light of recent events, I'll petition for the immediate overturn of the conservatorship. If that doesn't work, I'll visit the judge who signed off on it. A casual mention of the current charges against your father and that the conservatorship, and its validity, will most certainly be brought up during the trial should nudge him into revoking it," Daniel chuckled. "It wouldn't be good for him if someone started shining a light into the corners of his closet."
"Thank you, Daniel. I know you're going above and beyond what you expected to have to do. And for free, no less. I'll be eternally grateful to you."
"It's my pleasure, Isa. You just remember what I said about payment," Daniel replied warmly.
I smiled as I looked at my guys. "I'm working on it."
"Good girl."
The men around me bristled and glared at the phone at his praise. Interestingly enough, Daniel's praise didn't have any effect on me. Nonetheless, they weren't happy.
"Hey Daniel?" Dom asked cheerfully, a feral look in his eyes as he watched me across the table.
"Yeah?"
"Appreciate the hell out of you, bud, but if you call Isa a good girl again, you'll be wearing your tongue as a tie. Kindly fuck off now." My jaw dropped open in shock. Did he really just threaten Daniel when he's doing me such a big favor?
