“Let’s do this.”

Killian spoke. “This is how it’s going to go. You, Bri, and I are going in there. The boys will be on the other side of a one-way glass listening to what she has to say. Your job is to find out exactly what happened and where the damn diamonds and flash drive are. I know you’re pissed, but hold that shit in until we get what we need.”

“Okay,” I responded, and Bri nodded.

Killian led us to the door on the left, and a loud buzz went off. Killian opened the door, and we all piled through. The bright lights above illuminated the space. There were a few pictures on the wall, but everything was very minimal. One could tell a bunch of men worked here.

We passed several doors, and Killian stopped at one and turned the handle. Ollie, Van, and Diesel went through a door next to it.

Khloe had tears running down her face. Her brown hair was a total mess, and it looked like a rubber band was holding it out of her face.

She had dirt splotches all over her and looked exhausted. She didn’t move as we came into the room, but her eyes peeked at us.

Bri and I took seats across from her.

It was Bri who started. They were closer friends, after all. “What’s going on, Khloe?” Bri asked.

“I’ve got myself in a mess.”

“You got all of us in a mess,” I growled and felt Killian’s hand on my shoulder. While I loved his touch, part of me wanted to rip it off. I was pissed at Khloe, but I understood what we needed to do.

“Tell me,” Bri said, her hands resting on the top of the table. I could tell she wanted to reach out and comfort her, but Khloe had her hands clasped in front of her.

“I was with Landon, and he had taken me to one of his friend’s house for dinner. I didn’t know exactly where we were going at the time. I thought he liked me, and well … that was why I went. I was very wrong.”

No shit,I thought but didn’t say.

“He asked me to go into a room and grab the small black bag on the chair then bring it to him. I didn’t know what was inside. When I came out, he was gone. Just vanished. His friends said he had an emergency and had to leave. I ended up calling an Uber to come and get me. I wasn’t going to look inside the bag, but I did anyway, considering Landon had just left me. Once I saw what was in the bag, I clutched it closed.”

“And you didn’t think to return it?” Bri asked.

Khloe shook her head. “I tried calling Landon, but he wouldn’t answer my calls. He didn’t reply to any texts or voicemails either. I didn’t know what to do with it. Then stuff around me started going crazy. My phone would ring, and when I answered, no one was there. I found a light on in my apartment when I returned from the store, but I knew I didn’t leave it on. Then this scary man cornered me at a gas station, telling me he wanted his stuff back. I was terrified, but luckily there were people around, so I got away. I went underground with some friends of mine, not knowing what to do.”

“You do realize they came after Bri and me, right?”

She nodded, tears streaming down her face. “Sorry. I didn’t know this was going to happen.”

I wanted to believe her, but I was so damn biased when it came to her. Her word meant nothing.

“Where is the bag with the diamonds and flash?” Bri asked, keeping us on task. I sure loved that woman.

“I hid them.”

No shit, Sherlock. Lord, please give me the strength not to climb over this table and wring this woman’s neck.

“Where?” Killian threw in, obviously losing patience himself.

“They’re in a jar buried by the dumpster at the Drunken Monkey.”

“You’re shitting me,” I growled. “You put them at my business?”

“Only because I was coming to you for help, but I heard them coming. So I buried them really fast before they got to them.”

“Why didn’t you just give them to the guys?”

“They were going to kill me.” She wasn’t wrong, but still.

Killian’s reflection in the mirror showed his chin lifting to the guys in the other room. Please let this shit be there.
