“That’s the best you got? You need to work on that, honey.”
“You’re—”
“Incoming!” was yelled from the doorway, and Luca jumped up from his seat. Natalie halted her words as the guysfollowedLuca.
“Talk to me,” Lucaordered.
“Six wolves, unknown, on the back edge and coming this wayrapidfire.”
“Fuck,” Luca said. “Caleigh, you stay here. The rest ofyou, out.”
“Oh no!” I charged forward. “I’m not sitting back on my hands, waiting. Let’sdothis.”
“Our wolves don’t know you well yet. I don’t want anything to happentoyou.”
“Oh, that’s it; coddle her,” Natalie chimed in, walking by us and towardthedoor.
Luca gently grabbed my upper arms. “I want you in here whereit’ssafe.”
“And that’s not happening. I’m fighting by your side. Nodiscussion.”
We stood in a standoff for a few moments. I could see he was battling himself, but no way I was relenting. This was an all or nothing relationship. He wanted to live it real? An alpha pair fought together. If we didn’t, there would be many questions over our mating. We had enough of those as it was and didn’t needanymore.
“We do this real,” I whispered so softly only hecouldhear.
More thoughts trickled through his eyes. “Stay by me,” heordered.
I had no intention of doing that. If I was needed somewhere, I’d go there with no hesitation. One second too late ended up with someonekilled.
We piled out of the house just as the wolves came into view. They were running full speed, their intent on attacking andnothingelse.
One by one, we shifted into our animals. Luca’s was beautiful with gray fur around his head and feet. The rest of him was a shiny black. Absolutely stunning. My wolf only had a moment to look because the fightwason.
A wolf with dishwater brown fur came charging at me, snarling and snapping her teeth at me. Due to the thin line of the nose, my wolf could tell it was afemale. .
We went into an all-out battle. My wolf swiped our claws, getting a bit of the bitch’s shoulder. Her howls of pain weren’t enough to appeasemywolf.
Her teeth came very close to my nose and gave off a snap. My wolf reared back, then went for the female’s shoulder, clamping down violently. She struggled, trying to break free, but my wolf was strong. Stronger than most everyone gave hercreditfor.
When we shifted, our wolves were in charge. Our human self still thought and felt, but out wolf ran on complete instincts. It was why many wanted to be alphas, because they had the most control. My wolf had it leaps and bounds.Alwayshad.
I felt the pain of my wolf’s leg getting twisted as the other female wolfclawedin.
Off in the distance, I heard other wolves of my pack, which surprised me since we hadn’t met. Nevertheless, my wolf detected one was indistress.
Summoning up my alpha strength, my wolf unleashed on the bitch, biting, snarling, and attacking until she ripped the throat from the female and left her down on theground.
All of Luca’s pack was fighting, and Natalie was in trouble. She looked to have an alpha male on her hands, judging by his unbreakablestance.
My wolf charged over and knocked the wolf away from Natalie and to the ground. It didn’t take long for him to get back up and come at my wolf. He was powerful, but I didn’t feel that he was the leader of this pack. Yes, he was an alpha, but he was missingsomething.
Natalie launched into the fight, as well. Two against one, we somehow found a way to worktogether.
He clawed and bit. It took a very tricky back arch to miss getting gutted wide open. Then my wolf latched on to the back of his neck, while Natalie went for his throat, pulling it out and spitting it to theground.
Howls came from around us, and we looked around. Luca and Jonas were still fighting. Where the hell had the otherwolvesgone?
The wolf on Luca had a strong hold of him with his teeth, and Luca was having trouble shakinghimoff.
