Luca’s eyes flashed wolf. He picked up speed, bringing his mouth down as I arched my back. Then hebitme.

As soon as his teeth went into my flesh, I brutally screamed out my climax, my entire body shaking uncontrollably. The bite only intensified an already combustible orgasm, taking me to an entirely different level, one I didn’t know if I’dsurvivefrom.

Luca pulled his teeth away, licking the bite, and only then did my body relax and fall to the bed, the tension falling out of it. I sucked in breath as my heart hammered inside my chest like I was on some kindofdrug.

That’s when I felt it. A change inside of me. It started at my neck where he bit. Then, like a spider web, it grew, adding links everywhere it could until my entire insides were coveredinwebs.

“The bond,” I whispered, looking up at Luca who had a strange look on his face. I wondered if I had the same reactiononmine.

It was happening to him—the connection between us—and it waswrong.

“It’s not supposed to happen to me until Ibiteyou.”

Only then did he come back and focusonme.

“You haveit,too?”

“Yes. I’m scared.” And I was. The bond was nothing to mess around with. He said he could hack it, but I didn’t know if I could. Not with the feelings I’d had for Luca allmylife.

He rolled off to my side, pulling me tightly to his body, somehow still connected to him. This made it moreintimate.

“I know you are, but beautiful, you have nothing to fear. Iswearit.”

“How can you be so sure?” He was so damn confident and riding this wave like he’d wanted this. Wanted me to feel what he was feeling. “What happens when I go into heat? My wolf wanted this, but what if she decides you aren’t my mate. What happens then? This willkillus.”

“Let’s worry about that when the time comes. Right now, live this with me,” he repeated the words fromearlier.

I let out a deep breath, beginning to feel his heartbeat inside of me. The bond was growing quickly. So much faster than the stories I’d heard about matesconnecting.

“Don’t hurt me.” The vulnerability in my voice made me want to kick myself for opening my lips, but they were outthere.

“Never.” His words came out soft, and when he kissed me, it was sweet, kind, and caring. A kiss that seared deep inside my soul, attaching itself to me like nothing I’d everexperienced.

It was the beginning. The beginning oftheend.

ChapterSeven

As we enteredthe dining area, hand in hand, a hush fell overtheroom.

The space was large, fitting several tables with bench seats, some had chairs. The tables looked old and possibly handmade. The walls were a bright cream with large, thick wooden planks along the top for a decorative, cabin-type feel. There were large beams that spanned from one end to the other, adding to theappeal.

I felt the eyes. All of them, and there were thirty, maybe thirty-five or so, pairs on us. The nervousness I thought I’d feel didn’t come. Instead, confidence filled me, and I felt my spine straightening. My wolf felt it, too, as she snarled inside, ready to fight if need be. I was, too. Luca had told me to live this with him, and that meant fully. I wasn’t going tobackdown.

“Hello.” I gave a soft wave with the hand Luca didn’t have ahold of, while he squeezed theother.

“I’d like everyone to welcome Caleigh to the pack …mymate.”

Shocked looks came from the peanut gallery, along with gasps from some of the femalewolves.

I searched for Natalie, but she wasn’t in attendance. Pity. I would have liked to set all of this torestnow.

“That’s just not possible.” A female I knew as Gabby said. I also knew she was close friends with Natalie, accordingtoSage.

“He bit her,” Jonas, the beta, said from his seat. “It’s as possible asitgets.”

I noted Sage sitting at one of the tables, her hand resting on her neck in the exact spot the mark Luca had given me was on my body. Her eyes were concerned, and I felt the urge to go over to her and reassure her, but the truth was, I didn’t know whattosay.
